Italo Train Routes: An Extensive and Ever-Expanding Network

Since 2006, Italo’s commitment to ensuring more high-speed connections in Italy has been unwavering. The expansive network of Italo trains, which connects some of the most beautiful regions of Italy with high-speed convenience, makes Italo a great choice for both tourists and Italians alike.

For those looking to experience Italy’s iconic cities, Italo’s renowned Milan-Rome express service remains a favorite among locals and tourists, boasting 32 daily trips. That is one of dozens of connections on the Italo train network linking world-famous destinations like Rome, Bologna, Venice and Milan. Moreover, if you're looking to explore the stunning Adriatic coast, you’re in luck: Italo has recently added new stops at Forlì, Cesena, Pesaro, Riccione, and Rimini.

Traveling from the snow-capped peaks of the North to the sunny shores of the South? Embark on the Turin-Milan-Naples route, with up to 20 daily trips to choose from. The network also offers daily trains connecting Genoa, Milan, Naples, and Rome.

Winter wanderlust? As the chill sets in, Italo increases train service to Southern Italy. Italo offers up to 6 daily departures to Puglia and Calabria in the winter months, and with up to 30 daily stops at the Naples Afragola station, getting that little boost of vitamin D becomes a breeze. If you happen to like the cold, then you should stay in the north and discover the northern charm of cities like Udine, Treviso, Conegliano, and Pordenone.

For those who want to visit the enchanting seaside town of Reggio Calabria (at the very tip of Italy’s “Boot”) a high-speed Italo train can get you there from Rome in under 6 hours, or from Milan in less than 10—a truly impressive feat. And if you're yearning to visit Italian gems like Florence, Bologna, Milan, or the scenic Trieste, Italo offers flexible schedules on high-speed tracks. With several stops along the way, travelers can also discover lesser-known spots off the beaten path—the perfect starting point for an unforgettable Italian vacation.

Italo Trains: FAQs

Does Italo Offer Extra Assistance for Those with Reduced Mobility or Disability?

Due to their high-speed capacity Italo trains tend to be narrower than standard trains, therefore it is important to ensure the aisles are kept clear. Wheelchair Assistance is available for elderly, injured, or disabled passengers who require assistance to feel more comfortable when getting on or off the train. Call +39 06 8937 1892 or 060708 for PRM (People with Reduced Mobility) Assistance.

What Luggage Can I Bring on an Italo Train?

For passengers with Prima, Comfort, or Club Executive tickets, there is no limit to the weight or size of your luggage. However there are size restrictions for passengers with Smart tickets with a max luggage size of 12 in. x 27 in. x 35 in. (30 cm x 70 cm x 90 cm). All passengers can store their suitcases safely in the luggage compartment as they enter the train car. For smaller items, you can use the luggage racks overhead to place soft items, small shopping bags and laptops; alternatively, place them under the seat in front of you. Make sure your luggage does not disturb other customers or block the aisles or exits.

Do I Have to Pay a Baggage Fee?

No! The price of luggage is included in your ticket. Passengers with Smart tickets have luggage size restrictions.

How Many Bags Can I Bring?

One great thing about traveling with Italo is they have no specific limit on the number of bags you can bring. However, passengers should be considerate due to limited space for luggage on each train car.

Do Italo Trains Have WiFi?

Italo trains offer free Wi-Fi in all train cars. Connect by opening your internet browser and following the instructions. You must confirm your email address in order to access the web. Connect to the Italo Live Portal to start. Note: Large data usage is restricted. However, there is no cost for using the on-board cinema service.

Are Pets Allowed on Italo Trains?

Small pets up to 22 lb. (10 kg) are allowed. Guide dogs have no weight limit. For non-guide animals over 22 lb., you will need to book a ticket by calling customer services at +44 808 164 8588. There are added guidelines for dogs over 22 lb. (10 kg), such as using a muzzle and placing a mat underneath the dog whenever it is sat in a seat.

Does Italo Have a Lost and Found?

If you happen to lose any luggage or items of clothing, report where and when you think you lost the item on the Italo website. Their customer service will contact you if they retrieve it, or if it is handed in. Similarly, if you find anything on a train or at the station, please give it to an employee of the train or train station where you found it. If you see unattended luggage, keep your distance and inform a member of the staff right away.

Can I Take My Bike on an Italo Train?

In general, non-folding bikes are not allowed on Italo trains, unless they are disassembled and stored in a box or bike bag for transport. Bicyclists should note that Smart tickets have luggage size restrictions and should consider booking Comfort class or higher if transporting a bike bag that is larger 12 in. x 27 in. x 35 in. [30 cm x 70 cm x 90 cm]

Folding bicycles are considered standard luggage so they can be folded away and stored in the luggage racks for safety. It’s best to cover your bicycle in a protective cover in the interest and safety of other passengers, but also to protect your bike. Italo is not liable for luggage left in luggage racks; it is the passengers’ responsibility to look after their luggage.

Can I Take a Wheelchair on Italo Trains?

Folding wheelchairs are allowed on Italo trains and can be stored as standard luggage.

Can I Cancel or Modify My Italo Train Ticket?

Italo train tickets can be canceled if you change your mind. Go to the Omio Cancellations page to amend your ticket or cancel it entirely. The possibility of a refund depends on your ticket type, so please check the flexibility options before purchasing and see which type of tariff gives you the most flexibility in terms of refunds. If you bought a Flex ticket, you can make changes to the ticket up to 3 minutes before departure. If eligible for a refund, please contact Omio Customer care.

Can Children Travel for Free on Italo Trains?

Infants under 36 months travel free without a seat. Once children require a seat, you will need to book a ticket for them. However, adults purchasing a Flex ticket can travel with children under 14 years of age free of charge (this deal is restricted to the Smart and Comfort classes and can be used for a maximum of four passengers, one of whom must be an adult).

Minors between the ages of 8 and 14 can travel on their own if they purchase a ticket through the Italo Junior Service. Children traveling this way will be seated in the Club Executive carriage.

Can Italo Train Tickets be Refunded?

If your train is delayed, compensation is automatically paid to you within 30 days. In order to receive payment faster, you will be refunded with an Italo voucher unless otherwise informed. You can obtain an invoice from Omio upon booking your ticket. For complaints, send an email to [email protected]. If your train is delayed more than 60 minutes make sure to inform customer services, and if you need your return leg and it will be refunded along with your outbound journey, should you not wish to travel.
