How to Get to Turin by Train
While there are many different options for travel from the UK to Turin, the simplest and most popular is the route via Paris. Regular Eurostar trains leave from London St Pancras and arrive in Paris about two hours later. From here a short cross-Paris trip is necessary, as TGV trains to Italy leave from Gare de Lyon in the east of the city. Taxi or metro is the best way to make the journey, with travelers advised to leave at least an hour for this transfer. French TGV high-speed trains carry you through the Alps, arriving in Turin just under four hours later. Trains to Turin arrive at the central Porta Susa station, with excellent public transport connections to help you complete your journey. If you want to arrive at your hotel in style, Turin's antique trams are a tourist attraction in themselves - as well as a great means of transport.
Turin
One of Italy's great cities, Turin is probably best known as the home of car giant Fiat and Italy's most successful football team, Juventus. But there is much more to Turin than cars and sport. Once the capital of the wealthy Duchy of Savoy, Turin has all the parks, boulevards, shops and museums you would expect from a sophisticated European capital. For car fans the Museum of the Automobile has a huge collection, from an 18th century steam powered contraption right up to the present day - with an emphasis on a certain bright red sports car. For those looking for a more active break, Turin's hosting of the 2006 Winter Olympics has left the city with a host of world-class sporting facilities, with the peaks and valleys around the city now home to state of the art skiing and snowboarding facilities.
