Florence is a city that blends old and new Europeat it's very best. The birthplace of the Italian Renaissance and a medieval powerhouse, Florence has as much historical and arguably more artistic beauty than any city in Italy. At the same time, it is a buzzing modern city, with a flourishing contemporary art scene and a vibrant resident student population. As such, it is served by excellent modern transport networks. The heart and soul of Florence's public transport are the buses, which run all over the city center and suburban areas. There is also a single tram line, the T1, which runs from the city center to the Scandicci district. Firenze Santa Maria Novella, in the city center, is Florence's main railway station, and Firenze Campo di Marte is the second-biggest and -busiest train station serving the city. Public transport links between the two stations, and between the city center and Firenze Campo di Marte, are frequent and very efficient.
