I love discovering Italy by train: the Milan to Turin route was an easy choice for a weekend trip, and it allowed me to enjoy the charm of a comfortable journey during which I could read, admire the view from the window or lose myself in my thoughts… and, above all, get from city centre to city centre with no parking stress at all! Whether you’re visiting Italy for the first time or traveling between these two northern cities for work or leisure, this short journey is surprisingly enjoyable. Let me share with you my experience traveling from Milan to Turin by train, along with a few practical tips to help you plan a smooth and stress-free ride.

Train at the platform in Milan Stazione Centrale
The journey from Milan to Turin by train takes just 49 minutes (with Trenitalia’s Frecciarossa) to 1 hour and 51 minutes, covering around 142 kilometers (88 miles) between two of northern Italy’s most vibrant cities. In my experience, it’s easily the most convenient way to get from Milan to Turin if you value speed and comfort. High-speed trains such as Trenitalia’s Frecciarossa and Italo connect Milano Centrale and Torino Porta Nuova multiple times a day, making the journey fast and reliable. Regional trains are also available if you’re traveling on a tighter budget, though they take a bit longer so keep in mind that there is also this solution, even if it might not be the most convenient.
Using Omio to book my Milan to Turin train made the whole process incredibly simple. I could compare prices, train companies, and departure times in seconds before choosing a mid-morning Frecciarossa train. If you’re wondering whether to take the train or drive from Milan to Turin, in my opinion the train is absolutely the better option. The trip is faster than driving, avoids highway traffic, parking problems and drops you right in the city center. Flights between the two cities exist but rarely make sense given how quick and convenient the train already is.
Milano Centrale, built in 1931, is one of Italy’s most impressive and busy railway stations (second only to Roma Termini). The station building is huge, with an eclectic and monumental architectural style, resulting in a fusion of Liberty, Art Deco and references to Roman Neoclassicism. Milano Centrale is also filled with cafés, restaurants, and shops where you can grab a quick espresso before boarding. Despite its size, the station is well organized with clear departure boards and adequate security measures, with plenty of staff available if you need help. I absolutely recommend you to arrive at least 20-30 minutes early before departure, to find your platform and settle in effortlessly.
Most trains from Milano Centrale arrive at Torino Porta Nuova, the city’s oldest and main railway station and one of the most convenient entry points into Turin. Located right in the historic center, it’s within walking distance of elegant boulevards, cafés, and major attractions. Metro lines, buses, taxis, and tram connections are also just outside the station, making it easy to continue exploring the city without hassle. Some trains may arrive at Porta Susa, the modern underground station focused on high speed.
The train journey from Milan to Turin takes as little as 49 minutes on high-speed trains and about 1 hour 30 minutes on regional services like Regionale Trenitalia. One thing I love about this route is the frequency: trains run throughout the day, often every 20-30 minutes during peak hours. This flexibility made my planning easy, and it’s ideal whether you’re heading out early for a day trip or catching a later train after dinner in Milan.
My Standard Class seat on the Frecciarossa was comfortable, clean, and surprisingly spacious for such a short trip. There were power outlets at the seat, luggage racks above, and (an almost always) reliable Wi-Fi for checking emails or planning the rest of the trip. Onboard services vary slightly depending on the train company, but most high-speed trains offer quiet, air-conditioned carriages, free luggage transport and smooth rides that make the journey feel effortless.
If you want the best fares, booking your Milan to Turin train a few weeks in advance is usually the smartest move. Prices can start from around €15-€20 on high-speed trains when purchased early, while regional trains are often even cheaper.

The train is easily the best option if you’re deciding how to travel from Milan to Turin! It’s fast, comfortable and connects the two city centers in under an hour, turning what could be a simple transfer into a relaxed part of your Italian journey. Book your Milan to Turin train with Omio, grab a seat by the window, and enjoy this quick but scenic ride through northern Italy. Buon viaggio!
