Milan to Turin by trainMilan to Turin Train: A Fast and Comfortable Journey with Trenitalia
By Luke Patrick Hoogmoed
Traveling from Milan to Turin by train is one of the quickest and easiest ways to move between these two northern Italian cities. I recently took the Milan to Turin train with Trenitalia and was impressed by how smooth and efficient the experience was. Whether you’re planning a day trip or researching how to get from Milan to Turin for business or leisure, the train is by far the most practical option.

Route overview
The Milan to Turin route is served frequently by Trenitalia high-speed and regional trains. If you are searching for the best service, the Frecciarossa high-speed train is the fastest option, covering the distance in under 1 hour.
Regional services are also available and take about 1 hour and 45 minutes. With multiple departures each hour, the trip is extremely flexible and convenient. Because both cities are major transport hubs, the Milan-Turin train connection is one of the busiest and most reliable rail links in northern Italy.
Transportation experience
I arrived at Milano Centrale by metro, which made getting to the departure station very easy and affordable. If you’re wondering how to get from Milan to Turin in the simplest way possible, starting your journey by public transit is highly recommended.
If you’re arriving by plane, reaching Milano Centrale from the airport is straightforward. From Milan Malpensa, the express train runs directly to the station in about 50 minutes. From Linate Airport, you can take the M4 metro line toward the city center and transfer to reach Milano Centrale in roughly 30 minutes.
I booked my Milan to Turin train ticket online a few days in advance and paid €20 for first class. Considering the comfort level and high-speed service, I thought the price was very reasonable.
Boarding the train was also straightforward. There are no airport-style security checks, and once the platform was announced, I simply walked to my carriage and found my assigned seat. The train departed exactly on time.
Departure station
Milano Centrale is one of Italy’s most impressive railway stations. The building itself is massive, and inside you’ll find plenty of cafés, restaurants and shops. It’s a great place to grab a coffee or snack before boarding your train.
The station itself is well connected by metro, tram and bus, so you can easily get here from anywhere in the city. Departure boards are clearly displayed and platform access is simple to navigate, even during busy hours.
Arrival station
The train arrived at Torino Porta Nuova, Turin’s main railway station. It is centrally located and within walking distance of many hotels, restaurants and major attractions.
Public transportation is available right outside the station, including buses and trams. From there, it’s easy to continue exploring the city or connect to other destinations in northern Italy.
Schedule & frequency
One of the biggest advantages of the Milan-Turin train route is its frequency. High-speed trains run multiple times per hour throughout the day, while regional trains add additional departure options.
The high-speed service takes just under 1 hour, so you have no excuse to come for a day trip. Even regional services remain a reliable alternative with only a slightly longer journey time.
Onboard experience & services
Traveling in First Class significantly improved the experience. The seats were wider with generous legroom, and the carriage was noticeably quieter than Standard Class seats.
Shortly after departure, I received a complimentary snack box that included a small snack and a bottle of water. For a fare of just €20 in First Class, this felt like excellent value.
The train also offered free Wi-Fi, power outlets at the seat and clean restrooms. The ride was smooth throughout, and the countryside views between Milan and Turin were calm and relaxing. Along the way, I also saw glimpses of flat farmland and occasional distant Alpine scenery.
Ticketing advice & budget breakdown
If you're planning a trip to Turin, booking your ticket in advance is recommended to secure the best prices. High-speed fares often increase closer to departure time. When researching Milan to Turin train prices, keep in mind that First Class can sometimes be surprisingly affordable when booked early. Regional services are generally cheaper but take longer.
| Item | Cost (eur) |

| Ticket price | €20 |

Top tips & recommendations
- Book your Milan to Turin train at least two weeks in advance to secure the best fares, and choose high-speed services to reduce travel time.
- I recommend arriving at Milano Centrale 20 minutes before departure, even earlier if you want to grab some snacks for the trip.
- Use the metro to reach the station quickly and affordably, and consider First Class if prices are low because the added comfort is worth it.
Conclusion
Taking the train from Milan to Turin turned out to be one of the easiest parts of my trip. High-speed trains cover the distance in under an hour and run throughout the day. I paid €20 for a First Class ticket, which even included a complimentary snack and water, and the whole journey felt like excellent value. If you’re deciding how to travel between Milan and Turin, the train is easily the best option.
