Transportation experience
We booked our train tickets on Omio about a week in advance. The entire process was seamless, and it was reassuring to have mobile tickets right on our phones, which is especially helpful while on the go. We chose Business Class for this trip since it’s a longer train ride and both of us were carrying heavy suitcases. That little upgrade made a significant difference in comfort, allowing us to truly relax, work, or nap without feeling cramped. While flying might seem faster at first glance, when you factor in airport transport, check-in, and security lines, the train is much more convenient and stress-free.

Our journey started at Prague Main Station (Praha hlavní nádraží), which is centrally located and easily accessible by metro. You can even get there on foot if you’re staying nearby. The station is clean, well-signed in English, and offers cafés and luggage lockers for those arriving early. We arrived at Budapest Keleti Station, a large terminal just outside the city center. From there, it was a quick metro ride to our accommodation in District VII. There are taxis and rideshare services right outside, but the metro is affordable and easy to navigate.
Schedule & frequency
There are several daily train departures from Prague to Budapest. We took a late morning EuroCity (EC) service that left around 10:30 AM and arrived in Budapest just before 6 PM. The train was punctual throughout, and we appreciated not having to make any transfers.
Onboard experience & services
As mentioned, we opted for Business Class, and it was absolutely worth it. The carriage was quiet and spacious, with extra-wide seats, ample legroom, and fold-out tables. It was perfect for journaling or working on laptops. There was plenty of luggage space, including racks right beside our seats, which made it easier to keep an eye on our belongings. On EuroCity trains from Prague to Budapest, you're allowed to carry luggage free of charge, with no weight limits, assuming you can handle your bags yourself. The Wi-Fi worked well for messaging and light browsing, and each seat had its own power outlet. Although we brought snacks with us, we also stopped by the dining car mid-journey to stretch our legs and grab a coffee. The restrooms in Business Class were clean and well-stocked throughout the ride. I also appreciated how attentive and kind the train staff were. They even helped a nearby passenger rearrange their seat so they could sit with their travel buddy. The scenery became truly magical in the second half of the trip, with rolling hills, wide open fields, and a quaint village. It really felt like we were gliding through a European storybook.

The WC was only moderately cleanOur train, the EN 40457, departed at 00:40. Although the time was not ideal, I reached my destination at 8.30am after a journey of 7 hours and 50 minutes. It was a direct journey, without changing trains, and delays were rare. The comfort was excellent: The ergonomic seats and tables allowed me to watch films on my laptop. There were also power sockets and wifi on the train. The staff were helpful and assisted me in connecting to the wifi. The train was clean and well maintained, apart from the slightly dirty toilets. In addition, the train arrived in Budapest on time, which made the journey much easier. There were only a few transfers necessary, so I didn't have to constantly go back and forth with my suitcase and didn't have to change trains often. However, the volume was annoying and not appropriate. The reservation options were complicated and confusing. Unfortunately, the seats were not very comfortable and well maintained. But overall a satisfying journey!

The train was kept very clean and had a bistro with plenty of food and drinks. The train was also equipped with power sockets so that you could charge your mobile phone at any time, and the wifi was also good as I didn't have any interruptions during the whole journey.

I had a departure time of 19:15 and a seat reservation was required, which I also bought with the ticket. The journey took about 7 hours, so I was able to spend it on the train without changing trains. The train number was EN 442 and the on-board staff were very polite and always available. All in all, a great journey that I can only recommend!

Firstly, the price should be emphasised, as it was quite reasonable and worthwhile for the long journey time. The staff were also very friendly and helpful. They were always at my side and clarified any concerns. The wifi was extremely efficient and stable. I was able to work on my laptop during the journey. The train also arrived in Budapest on time. We set off at 7.15 am and arrived on time at 2.30 pm. The journey time was kept to very well. However, hygiene was not necessarily taken into account, as the toilets and seats were not well maintained. We had to change trains several times, which made the journey more time-consuming. Unfortunately, the noise level was not ideal. But overall, it was an excellent journey, especially because of the price and the liveable service!
