The train connections between Cologne and Munich have direct daily connections without changing trains, as well as with a change in Mannheim.
The train Cologne - Munich usually runs via Mannheim. On the route either ICE trains of Deutschen Bahn run as a direct connection, or there is a combination of IC and ICE. Only the quite long connection via Mainz and Darmstadt consists of trips with ICE, regional train and €city. ICE trains usually have an on-board restaurant. In the Intercity trains you can take a limited number of bicycles with you - in €city you have to reserve a seat beforehand.
The trips to Munich start at Cologne Central Station or in Cologne Messe/Deutz. This can be easily reached with the S-Bahn. Lines S6, S11, S12, S13 and S19 stop at the two S-Bahn platforms in the main hall. You can also take the tram Straßenbahn from Cologne. Lines 5, 16 and 18 stop at the two stops "Dom/Hauptbahnhof" and "Breslauer Platz/Hauptbahnhof". Last but not least you can reach the station by bus lines 132, 133, 250, 260, 978, N26 and SB40.

The tram lines 17, 19, 20, 21, 22 and the night lines N16, N19 and N20 stop in front of the reception building on Bahnhofsplatz. Lines 20, 21, 22 and N22 can also be reached at the northern exit of the station. There are also bus lines 58 and 200 (direction Bahnhof München-Ost).
