Cologne to Berlin train with Deutsche Bahn (ICE,IC,RE,RB)

After my business trip, I travelled back to Berlin on the same connection. The journey would have taken around 4 hours again, but the train arrived a little late before it even started, which is why the train was overcrowded and arrived late. I travelled on the ICE1158 and sat down in the on-board bistro again to get a quiet seat. As usual, the bistro was reasonably priced, but the service was very nice and courteous. Unfortunately, due to the rush of people, the wifi hardly worked at all.

I had a mixed experience on another journey with the ICE. On the positive side, the train arrived on time and I got a window seat, which made the journey more relaxed. The heating worked well and it was pleasantly quiet in the carriage. Unfortunately, the toilet was not particularly clean, which spoilt the good overall impression a little. Nevertheless, I would use the connection again, as the overall comfort on the train was impressive.

The outward journey to Berlin was exhausting. The train was 30 minutes late, which immediately spoilt my mood. The comfort was mediocre, cramped seat, restless carriage. The wifi was unstable, which was annoying. The toilets were quite dirty. No on-board bistro and I had nothing with me. The service was barely visible. The view was okay, but I was too annoyed to enjoy it. No change of train was a plus. Value for money rather disappointing. I should have been annoyed with the car but at least I would have had more control. Unfortunately been a disappointment.

The journey was comfortable and the service staff were very friendly. I paid €89.99 for the ticket. The toilet facilities were also very clean. The price-performance ratio for the ticket was a bit expensive.

I prefer to make my regular journeys from Cologne Central Station to Berlin on the ICE 542. It is particularly convenient that this train runs through without changing trains - a real advantage for anyone who wants to travel in a relaxed manner. As I'm usually travelling outside of peak times, the capacity is low and it's easy to find a free seat, even without a reservation. There was a slight delay of a few minutes, but it didn't affect the journey significantly.

The train made a clean and well-kept impression until we needed to use the sanitary facilities. Unfortunately, these were not so clean and hygienic. I sat in first class on the train, where there was plenty of legroom and a power socket for every seat. The seats were comfortable so far and I was also asked very quickly if I wanted something from the dining car. The staff were very friendly. Before my journey, I booked an extra seat for €5.90 because the train was full and I sat in my seat the whole time. Information was only available in the DB app or from the train crew, but no more than necessary, because when everyone wondered why we were suddenly travelling so slowly, they just said we weren't allowed to travel at more than 133 km/h. In my opinion, the journey time of over 6.5 hours (thanks to a 1.5 hour delay) was far too long and unjustified. As a result, I missed 2 connecting trains. As I booked the ticket very early, it was very cheap.
