The outward journey from Munich to Cologne by train was a pleasant experience. The train was well equipped and the atmosphere in the compartment was quiet and relaxed. I was able to enjoy the journey as the air conditioning was pleasantly cool and the windows offered large panoramic views of the passing scenery. The on-board staff were friendly and looked after the passengers. There was also the opportunity to buy snacks and drinks during the journey, which added to the comfort. Overall, the journey to Cologne was a pleasant and stress-free experience that I would happily repeat.

During my journey on the ICE, the train staff were very nice to me. The staff were helpful, answered questions patiently and created a pleasant atmosphere. My seat was also clean and comfortable, which made the journey even more enjoyable. The journey was quiet and punctual, which allowed me to arrive at my destination relaxed. Overall, it was a positive experience.

I travelled to Cologne by train to visit friends and the journey was really relaxed. The direct connection was perfect, no changes. Comfort was great, clean carriage, wide seat, quiet surroundings. Wifi was also available. The toilets were clean and visibly checked. The service was attentive. No on-board bistro, but I knew that beforehand. The view across Germany was beautiful. Top punctuality. Value for money was more than fair, better than any long car journey.

The journey was good overall. I arrived at my destination on time and the service on board was friendly. The volume was fine, just a little restless from time to time. Wifi was available but occasionally went on strike. The toilets were acceptable, but not the best. But the comfort was surprisingly good. Compared to the car, it was definitely more relaxed. One star less because the wifi and cleanliness still have room for improvement.

Purpose of the trip: Attending a wedding near Cologne (me and a fellow traveller). No alternatives (such as FlixBus) checked. Experience has shown that the train is generally a relatively good option for long-distance journeys. Departure 9:50 am in Munich with ICE722 on 9 May 2025, arrival 4 minutes late in Cologne Messe/Deutz at 2:19 pm. Toilets often out of order, on-board restaurant available. Wifi overloaded most of the time, power socket worn out and not working. Booked 1.5 months in advance with BahnCard 25. Purchased the ticket with a BahnCard 25 trial, as this reduced the total cost (together with other planned journeys). 1 star deduction due to the relatively high costs. Car travel would be cheaper for 2 or more people if you own a car.

The train journey from Munich to Cologne was okay, but not entirely convincing. The train was comfortable and clean, but unfortunately not punctual, we were over 30 minutes late. Wifi was unreliable and stopped working completely in between. The staff were friendly, but overall I had expected a bit more for the long journey. The price was okay, but not exactly cheap for what was on offer. Three stars because it was still relaxed, but there is room for improvement.

I was spontaneously travelling near Munich anyway, so I decided to take the next connection from Munich to Cologne. I chose Deutsche Bahn and travelled on the ICE. All in all, the train was very clean and well maintained, as were the toilets. I decided on the spot to buy a little something to drink from the small on-board restaurant, the prices were fine. All in all, my journey was pleasant. I was able to work during the journey and was not disturbed any further. The train also arrived on time.

The journey from Munich to Cologne begins relaxed at the main station. The ICE arrives on time - modern, clean and pleasantly air-conditioned. The scenery glides past the window seat: fields, cities, tunnels. The train is quiet, wifi is stable and the coffee in the on-board bistro is surprisingly good. Despite a few stops, the ICE keeps moving quickly. In just under four and a half hours, Cologne is approaching and the cathedral greets us from afar. The price for the journey in 2nd class: around €80.

The train journey was a complete success. The comfort on board was excellent, with comfortable seats, plenty of space and a quiet atmosphere. The wifi also worked reliably, which made the journey even more pleasant. The punctuality was particularly positive, the train even arrived a few minutes early. You really get a lot for the price, and for me the overall package is just right. I would travel on this train again at any time
Advantages
IconHeaters were on
This trip was in 2nd class. It was very cold outside, but inside it was very warm because the heaters were on. The food was very tasty. There were also vegan dishes. The train looked very nice from the outside and also from the inside. The staff were very nice and friendly. There was plenty of room for luggage. The whole thing gets 5 out of 5 stars, I recommend it. In addition, my train arrived on time.
Advantages
Iconbeautiful view
That was my outward journey, and I really enjoyed it. There was nothing that struck me as negative. I had many train changes and they all arrived on time. The staff were very humorous and nice. You could borrow earplugs and books, which I thought was great. There was also a lot of attention paid to hygiene, for example disinfectants. My croissant tasted very good and my coffee was of the highest quality and relatively cheap. My view from the train was very nice. You can already imagine that I can only pass on the ride. Great ride, deserved 5 stars.
Advantages
IconVery beautiful view
That was a 2nd class journey. It was relatively cheap. I didn't notice anything negative, which is why I recommend it and rate it 5 stars. I liked the wonderful view from the window. The staff had a great sense of humour and were also funny. The food was cheap, delicious and still healthy. There was also disinfectant and co. The train arrived right on time. The wifi had full bars and a digital table always showed where I was.

The journey in the ICE was very pleasant and comfortable, although the price is high compared to other means of transport. The interior of the train was clean and modern and there was enough space for luggage. The train was on time and the journey went smoothly. The scenery along the route was beautiful and there was plenty of opportunity to enjoy the views. The service on board was friendly and helpful. Overall it was a great experience, although the price is a criticism, and I would still travel by ICE again if I need the extra comfort and reliable travel.
Advantages

Disadvantages
Iconsomewhat expensive
At the beginning, I would like to mention the only thing that was negative, and that was the price. The journey in 2nd class cost me €50.90. It's not that expensive, but it is a bit expensive. However, there were many more good things and the best thing, in my opinion, was that it was very comfortable, as the seats were cosy, the temperature was pleasant and very special was that it was very clean. The view was also very nice out of the window and the atmosphere was super cool. My favourite rating for the ride would be 4.6 stars and I can definitely recommend it.
Advantages
IconLounger seat
I travelled in 2nd class and was travelling with one person. The great thing was that it was very cosy on the train and the reclining seat was particularly cosy and I was provided with this in 2nd class. In general it was very comfortable. The toilets had a pleasant smell. The train arrived on time and there was no emergency change. The staff were very nice and did a good job. It gets 5 out of 5 stars as my ticket was also cheap. Greetings go out to the nice driver who had chatted to us before the journey and came across as very personable.
Advantages
Iconclean toilets
Disadvantages
Iconsomewhat expensive
It was a long journey, but it didn't feel long because the staff kept you very entertained and it was very quiet on the train. The first thing I want to mention is the work of the service. It was great! Then we come to a negative point, and that is the price, it was unfortunately a bit expensive, but it was definitely worth it as the toilets smelled very good and I felt comfortable when I used them. Then I want to mention that I had a super view from the window. I can definitely recommend it. Finally, I wanted to say that Cologne is a very beautiful city.
Advantages
IconOn time
IconClean
Disadvantages
IconBoard bistro
We took a short trip to Munich and travelled there and back with the DB. The train on the return journey was extremely punctual, which I didn't expect at all. In addition, the toilet was clean this time too. A big plus. The only thing that really bothered me was that the Board Bistro was sold almost empty. So I didn't have the opportunity to eat something hot. A great pity. The journey was pleasant. The staff were very friendly. Unfortunately, as always with DB, the ticket was very expensive. But it was environmentally friendly.
Advantages
IconFast ride
Disadvantages
IconTrain delay
The journey was very fast, the train was warm and the tickets were unbeatable cheap. The atmosphere was very pleasant. My wifi was very good. The journey was in first class, with a very comfortable seat. I have an absolutely positive experience with this train journey. I can recommend it to others, as it was also very cheap. Also, greetings go out to the friendly driver.
Advantages
IconPunctuality, nice staff
Disadvantages
IconI did not like the food
My journey in second class was great. The train was there five minutes faster than it should have been. I felt comfortable while using the toilets. The train was also very clean. I can recommend it because it's great value for money. It was a great ride. I can recommend the second class.
Advantages
IconQuiet, relaxed journey without much hustle and bustle
IconThere was wifi and a power socket which made it easy for me to work
IconVery nice service
Disadvantages
IconI arrived a little later than expected
IconHigh ticket price
Travelling by train from Munich to Cologne was extremely pleasant for me personally. The relaxed atmosphere and the opportunity to admire the beautiful scenery along the route made the journey a thoroughly positive experience. The absence of any travelling stress allowed me to concentrate fully on the surroundings and enjoy the journey to the full. The fact that there was wifi on the train was definitely a big plus. This allowed me to use my travelling time extremely productively - be it by working on projects, answering emails or simply relaxing and surfing the internet. This convenience added extra value to the train journey. The journey time was acceptable to me and there were no significant delays to disrupt my plans. In addition, the train journey allowed me to relax and arrive fresh at my destination, as opposed to the exhaustion of a long car journey or flight. The comfort and quietness of the train was particularly remarkable. The seats were extremely comfortable and the overall atmosphere contributed to a pleasant travelling experience. To summarise, I can recommend the train journey from Munich to Cologne without reservation - a journey I will gladly take again in the future.
Advantages
IconReception
Disadvantages
IconNone
The train journey took just under 6 hours. Things that speak in favour of buying the ticket are the exceptional punctuality, the excellent hygiene and, of course, the good wifi reception. The seats were very comfortable and cosy. Another advantage is that the train journey is not only more relaxed, but also cheaper than travelling by car. I didn't have to change trains and recommend the train journey.
Advantages
IconComfortable
Disadvantages
IconNone
The journey was very pleasant, the train was well cleaned and the toilets were clean. The train was equipped with working wifi and power sockets. My seat had a small table where I could place my laptop. The staff were very nice and friendly. I had a beautiful view of the German countryside. I personally think the price-performance ratio is pretty fair
Advantages
IconPunctual
Disadvantages
IconUnhygienic
The journey began with a thoroughly positive experience: the train was on time to the minute. Unfortunately, on the train I realised that the benches were not particularly clean or hygienic. However, I have to admit that the wifi and reception were very good. The staff also did an excellent job. Unfortunately, I can only award this connection 4 stars.
Advantages
IconFast arrival
Disadvantages
IconUnfriendly staff
I really enjoyed this journey because the ticket was very inexpensive and easy to buy. I also liked the fact that I arrived at my destination quickly. The train wasn't delayed and the toilets were very clean. However, the staff were not so nice and when I said hello I only got a funny look back. I also liked the fact that there was wifi and that I could watch films during the journey
Advantages
IconPunctuality
IconEquipment
Disadvantages

The journey from Munich to Cologne was a very good experience. The train was on time, which was already a big plus, and then I also got a cosy and clean seat. The service was just as good, the staff very friendly and well informed. Even the toilets were clean. All in all, a very successful journey and nice to see that there are also perfect journeys. Always happy to do it again
Advantages

Disadvantages
IconHygiene
IconCleanliness
The journey from Munich to Cologne on the ICE was relaxed. There was good catering and the internet and charging facilities were fine. The hygiene on the train was not great. The floors could really have been cleaned a lot and the hygiene and toiletries were not convincing either.
Advantages
IconPunctuality
Disadvantages
IconVolume
I was very pleased that the train was on time and that I arrived at my destination on time. The journey was okay, but unfortunately the passengers were quite noisy. Apart from that, everything was great, from the facilities to the comfort. Overall a very good journey.
Advantages
IconJourney time
Disadvantages
IconOvercrowded
After our return flight from Munich to Cologne was cancelled, we switched to the ICE train. The train arrived on time and arrived promptly in Cologne without any further incidents. Unfortunately, the train was very crowded, so we had to queue for a long time at the start of the journey. The journey time was also reasonable, so the frustration about the cancelled flight quickly disappeared. The price was also really reasonable for a train journey.
Advantages
IconOnline ticket
IconCosy
IconFast
Disadvantages
IconWC facilities
As I travel a lot by train on business, I usually take the ICE. As always, it's one of the best ways to travel through Germany. Booking online is quick and easy. The only drawback, as always, is the WC; I've never had a connection where the WCs are faultless. The train was not delayed.
Advantages
IconPunctuality
IconWindow view
IconChild friendliness
Disadvantages
IconOvercrowding

Advantages: the train departed according to schedule and arrived at its destination on time. The train was good for people with disabilities. There were ramps and special seats for such people. The scenery along the route was beautiful and the train window offered a good view, which made the journey more enjoyable. Cons: especially at peak times, the train could sometimes be overcrowded. This caused inconvenience, especially for travellers without a reserved seat. Luggage storage was limited as there was no space.

Positives: The seats were comfortable and offered enough space. It wasn't too loud on the train and it was easy to relax. The food and drink was good and there was plenty of choice. The wifi worked well, which made it easy to be online during the journey. The staff were nice and looked after the passengers well. They were always there to help if you needed anything. It was easy to book seats in advance or buy them spontaneously at the station. The time spent on the train was fine and the train was on time. The price was fair for what you got. Negatives: The journey was a bit noisy which caused some confusion and a slight headache.

Disadvantages
IconLong journey
Unfortunately, I had to change trains on the journey, for better or worse, as the delay was so long that it made more sense to change to another train midway. The service on the booked train and on the replacement train was good. The on-board bistro was also open on both trains and was reasonably priced. The whole journey was a great way to take in the scenery and I had a lot of fun.

IconCleanliness
It was a pleasant journey that I can only recommend. The train was on time and travelled through without any problems. However, I was most positively surprised by the facilities on the train. There was functioning wifi and charging facilities. The seats were spacious and you could stow your luggage on the shelves provided. The staff were also always very friendly and helpful. We would happily travel again!
