Eurocity (EC)Ticket Types
As EuroCity works with multiple train providers across Europe, the ticketing system is easy and without fuss. There are two options for EC train tickets, Standard Class and First Class. The main difference in these fares is the carriages you travel in, with first class carriages tending to be quieter, having more leg room and more ergonomically designed seating.
Coach Classes for EuroCity trains: Standard & First Class
The coach classes available usually correlate with the two types of tickets available on EuroCity trains, with each varying slightly depending on the national train provider. As all EuroCity trains must meet a European-wide criteria on comfort and services, the Standard class carriages usually offer storage space, adequate legroom and comfortable seating,WiFi.Some EuroCity services offer a buffet car with full-meal services on board, plus plenty of food and drink options including a trolley for cold and hot snacks and beverages by the crew. First Class carriages vary with each train provider, however as a rule of thumb, First Class carriages are more spacious, with more spacious seating arrangements (using a 2-1 configuration), WiFi, and quiet work spaces.
How to get cheap EuroCity tickets
The best way to get cheap EuroCity tickets is to book as far in advance as possible. Train ticket prices tend to increase in price the closer you book to the departure date. EuroCity train tickets are available for bookings 180 days in advance. While seat reservations are not necessary on most trains, we’d advise that you book a place on some of the busier routes. Can’t book far in advance? Consider booking in off-peak hours. Off-peak EuroCity trains can be much more affordable. Peak hours to avoid are mornings, evenings, Fridays and Sundays and public holidays.
EuroCity: Discount cards and reduced fares
When taking the EuroCity there are a number of discount cards, benefits and reduced fares that can be applied to your journey depending on the provider. Omio applies all discounts directly via our book platform, meaning it’s simple for you to find the cheapest ticket for your needs. Most providers have reduced prices for infants and children, as well as seniors. There are also options for a special group fare for 6 or more people. For example, when booking a EuroCity train with Deutsche Bahn, you can apply the Bahncard 25 which gives 25 or 50 percent discount on full fares. International discount cards like Railplus, ÖBB Vorteilscard, Halbtaxabonnement and Voordeelurenabonnement also give discounts on full fares.

FAQs
Do I need to bring ID on EuroCity trains?

What is the luggage policy?
EuroCity trains provide ample space for luggage. Passengers are entitled to take hand luggage as well as one larger piece of luggage free of charge. Prams and pushchairs should be folded away in luggage compartments. Please note that on busy routes, larger items may have to be stowed away from your seating area. You must take responsibility for your luggage items.
Can I bring a pet onboard?
Most EuroCity train providers allow passengers to travel with pets onboard. Restrictions do apply and these vary with each provider. ÖBB and SBB, for example, allow small pets (less than 30 cm and can be kept in a container) aboard free of charge. Larger pets will need to be registered with a pet ticket. On DB trains, larger dogs must wear a muzzle and no pets can be brought into the dining carriages. Check in on our provider pages for further information and restrictions for pets on EuroCity trains. Please look at the cancellation and exchange options which appear when booking your ticket through the Omio platform.
Can I get extra assistance on EuroCity trains and stations?
