I love combining different cities into one trip, taking the Venice to Rimini train was a perfect opportunity to combine will-known historical city with a lot of tourists and beachside ralaxation. The way Rimini to enjoy sun and see is smooth and very simple. Here’s what my experience was like, plus a few practical tips to help you plan yours.

Route overview

The travel from Venice to Rimini by train takes around 3 hours, and the journey passes through northern and central Italy. Traveling by train in this region is the best way to combine comfort, speed, and nice scenery. I took a Trenitalia train, but you can also take at least 3 other providers on this route and find the best option for price and time. We took this train as it was one of the direct options; you can take a train with a stop in Bologna (+1 experience in your trip).

Transportation experience

In my opinion, the train is the best way to get from Venice to Rimini. My experience was very comfortable, smooth, and stress-free. I took an Italo high-speed train, but you can find other providers and routes based on your schedule and budget. Trains typically depart from Venice Santa Lucia and arrive at Rimini Centrale. Both stations are centrally located and easy to reach.

Departure station

Venice Santa Lucia is the iconic station in the city center of Venice. From this station, you can immediately see the famous canals and bridges. The station seems clean and well-organised. Nearby, you can either leave your luggage or drink coffee with local pastries. In my experience, I saw only a few stations that feel this cinematic.

Arrival station

The arrival station of Rimini Centrale is a very compact station in the city center. There as well, you can easily grab a coffee in a nearby cafe. Rimini Centrale has easy access to buses, taxis, and rentals right outside. It took us 15 min by foot to our hotel next to the sea.

Schedule & frequency

The Venice to Rimini train journey is a pretty common one, and you'll have trains every 20-30 min. If you want fewer crowds and a calmer experience, late morning or early afternoon trains are ideal. I took a train at 14:50 without any change, and arrived in Rimini by 17:40. The train was not crowded and comfortable. By 18:30, we already arrived at the hotel to fully rest.

Onboard experience & services

Traveling on a Trenitalia, I found the experience comfortable and modern - a clean train with comfortable seats. Take a seat next to the window to enjoy the sea road from Venice. On the train, I could charge my phone and really relax after a long day walking around Venice. Overall, the ride felt smooth and comfortable. Wi-Fi is available on board. Throughout the journey, I felt safe, both on the train and at the stations - the platforms were monitored. I was traveling with friends, but even if I am a solo traveler, I will still feel calm and secure. Traveling by train was way stress-free compared with rentals - we were able really relax and prepare for our next adventures.

Ticketing advice & budget breakdown

Of course, booking in advance might be the best advice for train travel, especially in the summer time, as it is peak time in Venice. I booked about 1 month ahead, as I am a real planning traveller, but two weeks ahead also sounds fine - the price difference is not that big. Keep in mind, prices can be higher on the weekends and during summer holidays.
