By far, the best way to travel from Luxembourg to Paris is by train. With a journey time of just over two hours, even flying can’t compete when it comes to getting from city center to city center. I travel frequently on French high-speed trains and always find them reliable and equipped with all the onboard amenities you need to make the journey as comfortable as possible. In this guide, I’ll show you what it’s like to travel on the TGV high-speed train from Luxembourg to Paris. Along the way, I'll share a couple of useful tips to help you make the most of your journey.

The interior of a TGV INOUI second class carriage with rows of seats.
The high-speed train from Luxembourg to Paris is a TGV operated by the French national railway company, SNCF. TGV stands for Train à Grande Vitesse, which simply means "high-speed train" in French. For this route, SNCF typically operates its TGV INOUI service, the brand's premium high-speed offering, featuring added comfort and amenities.
Booking your Luxembourg to Paris train ticket on Omio is simple and transparent. You’ll see all fare conditions upfront, like whether your ticket is refundable or exchangeable and what the luggage allowance includes. I booked about a month in advance and paid €53 for a Second Class seat. You can also compare buses or flights to Paris on Omio to see what works best for your itinerary and budget.

Trains from Luxembourg to Paris depart from Luxembourg City’s main railway station. I began my journey in Diekirch, taking a train to Luxembourg City first. One of the best things about getting around Luxembourg is that public transport is completely free. You don’t need to pay for any bus, tram, or train within the country’s borders. There are no formalities for check-in on the Luxembourg to Paris TGV train. Just check the departure board to see which platform your train leaves from, walk there, find your coach, board the train, and take your assigned seat. With all this, it’s always a good idea to arrive at the station about 20 to 30 minutes before your scheduled departure time. At the station in Luxembourg City, you’ll find a small supermarket and bakery, as well as both takeaway options and a proper sit-down restaurant.
Trains from Luxembourg all arrive at Paris Gare de l'Est in the French capital. As you might expect from one of Paris’s main railway stations, Gare de l'Est offers plenty of facilities, including numerous food stores, shops, and restaurants. Gare de l’Est is well-connected by bus and metro and is just a stone’s throw from Gare du Nord if you need to catch a connecting train there.
Each day, up to five direct TGV trains depart from Luxembourg to Paris, with the fastest taking just 2 hours and 10 minutes to cover the 381 kilometers (237 miles) between Luxembourg City and the French capital. All TGV INOUI trains from Luxembourg to Paris stop en route at Thionville and Metz, with some services also stopping at Champagne-Ardenne TGV or Meuse TGV. I took the train at 10:10, and it arrived right on time in Paris at 12:20. In the end, the ride went by quickly and was surprisingly comfortable, even in Second Class, thanks to the Wi-Fi and power outlets that kept my phone charged.
The high-speed train from Luxembourg to Paris is a double-deck (duplex) train with seats available in both Second and First Class. Second Class features seats in a 2+2 configuration, while First Class offers wider seats arranged in a more spacious 2+1 layout. In Second Class, you can pick between two seats side by side or bays of four seats around a table. In First Class, you also have the option of solo seats or duo seats facing each other around a table. Personally, I always try to choose a seat on the top deck of a TGV train because the views from there are better. All seats have access to a power outlet, and the train is equipped with free Wi-Fi. The signal remained fairly reliable throughout the journey. You can store your bags on luggage racks or in the overhead storage available in each coach. On TGV INOUI trains from Luxembourg to Paris, you can bring two suitcases (under 70x90x50 cm) and one hand luggage (under 40x30x15 cm). There is no difference in service between Second and First Class. The higher class mainly offers a better seat. You can bring your own food or visit the onboard TGV INOUI Bistro, where snacks and drinks are available for purchase (from burgers and salads to coffee, bottled water, and soft drinks). During my journey between Luxembourg and Paris, I only bought an Illy coffee, which cost me €3. The views between Luxembourg and Paris are mainly limited to rolling hills and agricultural fields. The first part of the journey between Luxembourg and Metz is on conventional railway lines, but once the TGV train reaches the LGV Est, it reaches high speeds of around 300 km/h.

French high-speed train fares, including those for the Luxembourg–Paris TGV, fluctuate based on demand. In general, the earlier you book, the cheaper the ticket. Prices also tend to be lower during the off-season. Midweek departures and trains leaving later in the day are usually more affordable, whereas Monday mornings and Friday afternoons are peak times with higher prices.
