Travel from Paris city center to train station Gare de Paris Bercy

With an origin dating back as far as 259 BC, Paris is one of the oldest and most distinguished cities in the world. The home of breathtaking attractions such as the Arc de Triumph, the Eiffel Tower and the Louvre, it is also the site of a multitude of iconic events both historical and fictional. Train station Gare de Paris Bercy is located in the Bercy neighborhood in the 12th arrondissement or borough of the city. This area is located on the right bank of the River Seine and boasts some of the oldest signs of human habitation in the city, dating back almost 8,000 years. Originally, train station Gare de Paris Bercy was primarily used to transport auto-goods such as cars, motorbikes and scooters, and while this is still it's primary focus it has since opened itself up for passenger transfers between locations throughout the city as well as to inter-city connections.

What is the best way to get to the train station from the city center?

Passengers looking to travel to train station Gare de Paris Bercy from the city center can do so via two main subway lines, the M14 and the M6. Line 14 will take travelers direct to Chatelet station. This station has a number of attractions in close proximity, including the famous Louvre museum, home to such artworks as the Mona Lisa and the Venus de Milo, as well as the Notre Dame Cathedral, the home of Victor Hugo's fictional hunchback Quasimodo. The journey between the two stations should take about 15 minutes and it is important to note that the subway stop for Paris de Bercy station is simply titled Bercy. It is not integrated as part of the main station so a walk of about 300 feet (100 meters) is necessary to reach the mainline station. Passenger's with a little more time may wish to stop off at the celebrated Gare de Lyon station. Located one stop before Bercy on the M14, it has been renowned for its great architectural beauty since it was built for the World Exposition in 1900 and is also the location of the famous Le Train Bleu restaurant.

How far is it from the city center to the train station?

The M14 and the M6 are the two subway lines connecting train station Gare de Paris Bercy with locations in the city center. As these are direct services, passengers should not require more than 15 to 20 minutes total to complete their journey taking into account walking distances at either end. A slightly faster indirect way to reach the station is by taking a two-minute train from Chatelet Les Halles (the A line) and transferring at Gare de Lyon to bus 7 or 77. This bus will take about three minutes to reach train station Gare de Paris Bercy for a total journey time, taking into account change over time and walking time, of about eight minutes. Gare de Lyon is only a 13-minute walk to the station so for visitors looking to take in a little of the scenery on their journeys, it can be a good idea to transfer to Gare de Lyon and take a casual stroll from there to Gare de Bercy station.

How accessible is the train station for those with limited mobility?

Paris as a whole is considered something of a challenge when it comes to wheel-chair and limited mobility access, due in large part to the many aesthetic but wheelchair-intolerant cobbled streets, small cafes and spiral staircases. The subway system as a whole is also playing catch up in this area, with most lines not yet offering full and easy access for wheelchairs. Luckily, Metro Line 14 is one of the exceptions to this rule, boasting a full contingent of elevators and ramps. Consequently, for anyone traveling via wheelchair or with mobility issues, or even for those transporting heavy or wheeled luggage, this line is likely to provide the easiest journey.

Local tips: the train station points of interest

Bercy village is considered something of an undiscovered gem of the Parisian arrondissements by those who make it there. Often overshadowed by the more landmark-heavy regions that surround it, Bercy can offer a kind of escape from the weight of tourists that occupy other locations in the city. Once the site of the largest wine market in the world, visitors can still see 42 original storehouses that have since been registered as historic monuments. A range of trendy boutiques and cafes are now integrated into these storehouses, contributing to Bercy's growing reputation as a fashionable shopping hub.
