On the route from Hanover to Karlsruhe, I can unreservedly recommend taking the train. With the ICE direct connection, you save at least 2 hours compared to the car. If you book a little in advance, you can also travel relatively cheaply. The train left on time and arrived in Karlsruhe with only a minimal delay, and there were plenty of free seats. The only drawbacks were the wifi, which was a bit unstable that day, and the somewhat dirty toilets.
