Pompei Scavi-Villa Dei Misteri is a very small station with only two platforms, an information desk, restrooms, a bar, and luggage storage. This station is closest to the ruins of Pompei but is approximately 1.7 miles (2.7 km) from the city itself. The Circumvesuviana line serves this station, so if you’re looking to catch the national Trenitalia trains, you’re at the wrong station. The Pompei station (sometimes called Pompei Centrale) serves the Trenitalia line and is about 1.6 miles (2.6 km) from the ruins. You can easily transfer from this station to Pomei Scavi-Villa Dei Misteri if you don’t want to walk, take a bus, or grab a cab.

Arrival train station: You’ll arrive from Pompei at one of three stations: Rome Termini, Rome Ostiense, and Rome Tiburtina. Rome Termini is the main station serving Italy’s capital and it’s also where most of the trains from Pompei to Rome end up, so if you’re skittish about smaller stations fear not, even if it is the second largest terminal in Europe. It is open from around 06:00 a.m. until 12:00 a.m. and offers currency exchange, a tourism office, restrooms, baggage office, restaurants, cafes, a train connecting to the Leonardo Da Vinci airport, taxis, connections to the metro line, and buses. It is in the heart of Rome, about 2.6 miles (4.2 km) by foot or 4.4 miles (7.1 km) from the Vatican. Two of the last trains of the day leaving around 05:50 p.m. and 07:36 p.m. arrive at Rome Ostiense, about 2.7 miles (4.3 km) south of the city center. You can take buses or the metro from this station to other areas, connect to the Fiumicino airport and Roma Tiburtina station, enjoy the cafeteria, exchange currency, take advantage of the restrooms or newsstand, or grab a taxi. Only one train leaving around 07:33 a.m. will bring you to Rome Tiburtina in the northeastern part of Rome. It has a newstand, currency exchange, left luggage office, cafeteria, restrooms, connecting buses, taxis, and connections to Fiumicino airport and the metro. It’s about 2.3 miles (3.7 km) by foot from the city center and 3.2 miles (5.1 km) by car.
