About Avignon

Avignon is a beautiful and historic city with lots to see and do. It is the ideal destination for history buffs, as it is filled with medieval monuments, and was named a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1995. The Les Halles area is filled with great restaurants, and just outside the city visitors can visit vineyards for wine tasting tours.

Arriving in Avignon

Train

There are two train stations located close to the city center and with public transport it is easy to get into the city center from either station. Taxis are also readily available.

Bus

Buses run regulary in and around Avignon and the city is easily reachable by road, with several large motorways serving the area.

Flight

The Avignon Caumont Airport is situated only a few miles from the heart of the city. Buses run from the airport to the city center for most of the day. There is also a taxi rank outside of arrivals.

Traveling around Avignon

When travelling to Avignon, the best way to get around is by cycling and walking, due to its small size and abundance of bicycle paths. Its small medieval streets are not well suited to cars, but travelers may want to rent a car in order to visit the surrounding countryside, or to drive to and from the airport if arriving in Marseille.
