This was my first stop on my European honeymoon around Norway: traveling from Oslo to Bergen by train is one of those journeys that stays with you long after it ends. It’s slow travel at its best, offering a deep connection with Norway’s landscapes and, believe me, truly incredible views. It is no coincidence that it was elected one of the most beautiful train journeys in the world!

Bergen views: harbor and Fløibanen funicular.
The train journey is long, but it crosses (almost) half of Norway: it takes around 6.5 to 7 hours, covering approximately 500 kilometers (310 miles). Not to mention that the train is the best way to get around Bergen, which is a small city where finding parking would be difficult! Departures are from Oslo Central Station, arriving in Bergen.
I had no hesitation in buying our tickets through Omio, which made it easy to compare schedules and find the best option for my travel day. Everything was quick and clear, and having the ticket ready on my phone made boarding completely hassle-free.
Oslo Central Station is modern and well organized. Clean spaces, clean directions, clean experience! We arrived early and had time to grab a delicious breakfast before boarding.
Arriving in Bergen feels almost cinematic. The station is small and close to the iconic harbor, and within minutes you’re surrounded by colorful buildings and sea views. Plus: the unforgettable scent of Norwegian sea air!
There are multiple departures daily, spaced out to give flexibility in planning, but I suggest you look carefully for the best departure time for you since it is a long journey that takes more than half a day.
The train ride from the Capital to Bergen was incredibly comfortable, but as I said the real highlight is the view. Mountains, rivers, and vast open landscapes unfold throughout the journey, making it feel almost meditative, surely cathartic.
All in all the tickets were cheap because Norway is a country with a higher cost of living than Italy. We paid around €65 each, with prices ranging between €40 and €120.
