I often do this journey with Deutsche Bahn, as you can get from one central station to the other very quickly.

The journey time of about 15 minutes beats the car by miles and I only needed 2 hours for my entire journey. The seats were comfortable and I had power, wifi and a window seat. Not so good was the cleanliness of the toilets and the unpunctuality. There was a catering service which I didn't use. The price of €35.99 for the whole journey is very reasonable as I booked months in advance. Broken down from Bonn to Cologne, it's less than €10, which is great!

The seats are often dirty and there is a lot of rubbish lying around. In addition, some of the trains are very outdated. The doors often don't work.
