ScotRail: An Overview

Established under the brand Scotrail by National Express in 1997, the company was transferred to First in 2004 at which point it was redubbed First Scotrail. In 2008, the company returned to the original name, Scotrail.

The rail company provides services throughout Northern England to areas such as Newcastle and Carlisle, as well as London. The vast majority of services are between major Scottish cities, such as Edinburgh, Glasgow, Inverness, Aberdeen and Dundee.

It operates trains along the Highland Main Line, which is renowned for the scenic views of the Scottish Highlands. A Caledonian sleeper train running overnight also takes passengers from Scotland to London’s Euston Station.

Passengers may elect to travel in Standard or in First Class where they can enjoy extra leg room, access to power sockets for computers and other electronic devices as well as complimentary drinks and various refreshments on board. Standard Class offers a comfortable and relaxing ride to your destination.

Scotrail offers quite a large array of tickets such as Advance tickets, Group tickets known as Friend’s Fare, Anytime tickets which offer full flexibility regarding timing, Family tickets for your family travel needs, as well as Off-peak tickets.
