Glacier Express
In Switzerland, the Glacier Express starts its journey from Brig, Zermatt, to its final destination at St Moritz Davos. The train makes stops through Thusis, Celerina Chur Bravuogn, Andermatt, Fiesch, Filisur, Samedan, Tiefencastel, and Disentis. During winter, the Glacier Express starts the estimated 8_hour journey at around 8:50 a.m. and arrives at its final destination at around 4 p.m. During winter, two Glacier trains operate in a day. In summer, the trains can take two trips. It's important to note that the train does not operate from around mid_October to the first two weeks of December due to the possible instability of the terrain. You have probably heard that the Glacier train is the slowest in Switzerland, yet one of the best trains. The Glacier Express has customer_friendly amenities. Such amenities include a spacious one_seat at the window, lunch and wine, available lockable compartments, a private bar, and one carriage that accommodates only 20 passengers. The train is the best choice for most tourists because it passes through a vast scenic landscape, making it easier to take pictures and admire the view. You can always check with Omio for any discounts that Glacier expresses offers. You can always claim your saver day pass and use it without paying the ticket fee. Do you know that the Glacier Express is the slowest train, not only in Switzerland but also in the world? A fast train can generally move through the distance in four hours or less. However, the Glacier takes eight hours to go from Brig, Zermatt, to St Moritz.
Types of tickets of Rhätische Bahn
With the Glacier train, you will either travel in first_ or second_class cabins. If you are a solo traveler, you'd probably prefer the first_class ticket. However, there isn't much difference between the second and first class tickets except for space and privacy. Despite the occasional changes in prices, on average, the cost for first_class travel is €271 and €268 for second_class. When using the Glacier express as a tourist, you can always book accommodation facilities at your destination for a short period. Such prior arrangements will help you avoid the trouble of going through the hotel booking process. Also, you don't have to stay hungry. There are excellent food services on board, but it's advisable to carry a water bottle. This is due to the high price of the water on the train. Bernina express has first class and second class tickets. The tickets vary due to the spacing of chairs and positioning of the seats. In first_class, you are guaranteed a view out the window. The price for a first_class ticket is approximately €115, and second_class can go as low as €60. Use the Omio website to check for possible price fluctuations each time you purchase a travel ticket. Bernina express can offer day trips because the trains are relatively fast. Though there is available food and drinks on the train, they are expensive.

Rhätische Bahn Travel Tips
Your Rhätische Bahn travels, whether with the Glacier or Bernina express train, is usually time_consuming and at times extremely cold or hot. The trip has breathtaking views along the way. Here are the tips that can help you experience a great time with train travel.
- Book early. Rhätische Bahn is a significant tourist attraction route. You may want to book months earlier for your trip. Booking before your trip will help you secure the best seats and avoid price changes during peak seasons.
- Choose the train to use wisely. When traveling via train, you have to choose the train to book depending on your travel. If you are going for a business activity, you may want to take a fast train. However, if traveling for leisure, you can travel on a slow train.
- Carry your high_resolution camera. For your trip through a scenic view, forgetting your camera can prove disappointing. Ensure to put your camera close to the things you value most.
- Wear less during summer. Switzerland has scorching summers. You might feel quite hot next to the train windows. Dress simply and ensure to carry your flip_flops.
- Carry your water. Always carry your water bottle. Sometimes purchasing water is expensive, especially if you take a lot of fluids in a day.
- Always look out for discounts. If you are not in a hurry with your trip, check with Omio if your train provider offers discounts. You might just save enough for something fancy.
- Check your ticket before leaving the house. Ensure you have your ticket with you. However, if you booked with the Omio app, you will not have to carry the ticket with you.
- Ensure you have all essentials in your travel bag. Check on simple items such as your hairbrush, toothbrush, medication, and enough clothes for your travel.
- Don't forget your tour guide booklet. Your travel guide should always stay with you. It will help you plan places you want to visit and in the appropriate order. Some guide books have suggested hotels and great locations with different cultural foods.
- Book a night train if you are returning home. Night travels are cheaper compared to day travels, so if you are going back home after your tour, save some cash by using the night train.
Sustainability with train travel
Train travel is more sustainable compared to any other mode of transport. A train may carry more than 1,200 people and use one engine. Compared with a personal vehicle, its rate of air pollution is slower. With the recent introduction of light train cars and electric trains, the rate of emissions by train travel in Switzerland will decrease significantly in the future.
Rhätische Bahn Night Trains
Your night travels with the Rhätische Bahn Night Trains might be the best experience, especially with a full moon and clear skies. As you pass through the Lago Bianco and Morteratsch Glaciers, the moon’s reflection forms a beautiful scene. Although it's rare, you can also have a chance to see a polar bear on your way. If you fancy mountain climbers, be sure to spot some on your journey. The night trains are mostly returning trips to most travelers, making them cheaper than other travel tickets. Also, suppose you are a regular on the route for work or business. In that case, you might not have much interest in viewing the scenery, and traveling at night can be a better choice. Fewer people travel via train at night, resulting in a few empty seats; you can create room for a nap and stretch. If you are traveling first_class, your seats have room to recline. You can sleep if you feel exhausted. Omio will help you choose the best train for your night travel.
