In the same summer, I had decided to visit Málaga for a few days as well, as I had heard a lot of good things about this city and I was curious about it. Another, although minor, reason for visiting Málaga was the climate. While Seville in the summer can be a bit extreme, I am not exactly a great admirer of extreme temperatures, and as Málaga is a coastal city, I thought it could be a bit more tolerable.

Old houses in Málaga
Seville and Málaga are about 200 km apart. There are a number of long-distance bus services that connect the two cities. The buses operate on a daily basis. The journey from Seville to Málaga takes about 2 hours 45 minutes to 3 hours depending on the traffic. The buses leave from Plaza de Armas in Seville and end up in Málaga bus station near María Zambrano railway station.
I got on the bus at the Plaza de Armas bus station. This is Seville’s main bus station. It is not too difficult to get around. Once the bus left Seville, the scenery gradually changed to the typical open country found in this region of Spain. However, the scenery soon began to change again as the bus got closer to the hills found near the coast. For a journey of this length, the pace of the bus was not too bad.
The bus station for intercity buses is called the Plaza de Armas bus station. It is located near the Guadalquivir River and is easily accessible from most neighborhoods in the city center. The bus station has ticket booths, waiting areas, and several bus departure points.
The bus arrives at the Estación de Autobuses de Málaga, which is situated near the María Zambrano railway station. From there, it is easy to get to the city center by bus, train, or even on foot, depending on the location of the accommodation.
There are several buses running from Seville to Málaga throughout the day. The buses are distributed throughout the morning and the evening, making the route fairly flexible, whether the destination is for a short visit or a longer stay.
The buses used for the route are regular, long-distance coaches with reclining seats, storage space for luggage under the bus, and air conditioning. For a journey of three hours, the ride is comfortable enough. Passengers spend the time quietly looking at their phones, reading, or just looking at the Andalusian landscape passing by.
The price for bus tickets from Seville to Málaga or from Málaga to Seville usually lies between 15-25 Euros. This is a general overview of my trip:
| Item | Cost (eur) |
|---|---|
| Ticket price | €18 |
| Food & drinks | €3 |
| Travel to departure station | €2 |
| Travel from arrival station | €3 |
| Total | € 26 |
As soon as I arrived in Málaga, everything that I had heard about this city was confirmed. Among all of the places that I visited, one of the ones that caught my attention the most was Málaga Cathedral, also named “La Manquita” due to one of its towers never being finished. As we go inside, we can discover some of its unique details, such as its pair of twin organs built in 1780, which are still working perfectly today, creating thousands of pipes that have lasted over two centuries. The wooden choir stalls are also very unique, as every single relief is different, creating a feeling of this being a work of art. In one of its chapels, we can find the Virgen de los Reyes, which is considered the oldest sculpture in Málaga Cathedral. It is said that this image was present when Catholic Monarchs entered Málaga in 1487, also being present when the first Catholic mass was celebrated in Málaga. Walking through this cathedral after coming from Seville is definitely one of the experiences that I remember the most from my trip.
