After a few peaceful days gazing at the horizon line from the beach in Nerja it was time to make my way to Malaga to catch my return flight and conclude my holiday. As someone travelling around the region without a car, I was really relieved to find such great bus connections. Furthermore, the bus departures were daily, frequent, and very fairly priced.
Route overview
As a non-driver, this bus route was so helpful and allowed me to experience a place I’d wanted to see without much hassle. The Alsa bus from Nerja to Malaga was really convenient and comfortable.
Transportation experience
I booked my tickets ahead of time on my Omio app which I was grateful for as there was quite a long line of customers at the bus stop ticket kiosk. I was travelling with a large rucksack which I was able to store in the bus’ hold and I took a tote bag with some snacks and water onboard with me. As it was April, it wasn’t super warm inside the bus but I was grateful for the cool AC system. There was assigned seating with my ticket but fortunately that wasn’t necessary as there was lots of space onboard (a perk of having buses running so regularly is that they never seemed overcrowded.) The journey took around 1h25m and snaked along the coast; so the views were amazing.
Onboard experience & services
Since Nerja is a relatively small town, all buses stop on a central street. It was easy to spot the Alsa (bus provider) branding on the bus stop and the bus was also branded and arrived on time. The route can be a little windy, as it’s a coastal road, so if you get nauseous I’d advise sitting near the front.
