I travelled on the Railjet RJ 660 from Vienna to Linz (and then on to Salzburg). I used ÖBB's cheapest economy rail, so that I was also travelling cheaply as an occasional traveller. The journey time between Vienna and Linz was only 75 minutes and we were on time. Thanks to enough space, a small table, power socket and wifi, I was able to work well on the journey. The staff were friendly and the toilets were clean. Only the railway stations no longer made the most modern impression on me.

My train journey from Vienna to Linz with ÖBB was extremely pleasant. The timetable was punctual and booking tickets online was straightforward. The seats were comfortable and there were power sockets at every seat. The service was friendly and the toilets were clean. With a journey time of 1.5 hours and a direct connection, it was good value for money.

IconThe train is clean

Disadvantages
IconIt's very loud on the train
It is very easy to book seats for a journey from Vienna to Linz main station. I booked seat 7 in carriage 4 and as I travelled to Linz via St. Pölten, it took me about 1.5 hours. I didn't have to change trains once. As always, the service is very friendly and the seats are very comfortable. Although it is very noisy on the train, the free wifi works very well, as do the sockets on the train. The inside of the train is very clean. As always, the price-performance ratio is very good!
Advantages

Disadvantages

IconThe ticket control was annoying
Access from the airport to the railway station is modern, well signposted and uncomplicated. The trains run on time. There were plenty of power sockets in the station as well as magazines. An OBB employee regularly checks tickets, which was the case on all my boardings during my stay in Austria. There was an emergency when I arrived, but we were updated and I was able to reach my destination while informing my host. The prices are too expensive for a short distance.

Disadvantages
IconBoring journey
I took the train from Vienna to Linz at around 7:55am on 29 March. My ticket was reasonably priced (this is because I have an annual ticket within Vienna and Lower Austria). I didn't reserve a seat and sat in wifi 24 in RJX 544. The journey was very pleasant, quiet and the wifi was equipped with wifi and power sockets. The staff were very friendly and I was well informed about the journey thanks to the loudspeaker announcements and the screens on the train. The toilets were also very clean and nicely equipped. Another positive thing is that the train was very punctual and we only travelled for about 1 hour and 10 minutes. Unfortunately, I was still bored during the journey. The value for money is also great, as I only paid a little as I mentioned before. So I would definitely recommend travelling by train from Vienna to Linz to anyone.

"An excellent train journey from Vienna to Linz! The Railjet was brand new and offered maximum comfort. The journey time was impressively short, and the multiple daily connections on offer made planning the journey very flexible. The timetable is sufficient for the departures. Tickets are easy to buy online. Seat reservations are highly recommended, especially if you are travelling with children. Booking in advance is also an advantage as the price is cheaper. The journey time is much more pleasant by train than by car. The trains are very easy to recognise with the train numbers. The comfort on the new trains is better than on the old ones. Wifi is not available on all trains, but is available in 1st class. Service and cleanliness are sometimes good and sometimes not, 50:50 chance. The journey time is of course not always pleasant on the train, but comfortable in single cabins. The prices are still very expensive except during special offers.

The train journey from Vienna to Linz was not a pleasant experience. It was fast and cheap. However, the journey was very uncomfortable and you couldn't relax. It was very noisy on the train and many people had to stand on the train as it was completely overcrowded. It is a direct connection without changing trains with a Railjet. The journey took a good 2 hours.

The journey from Vienna to Linz is a relaxed stroll with extremely beautiful views of the countryside. The train itself was historic, something you don't see every day. I liked it though. The destination was reached with a slight delay, but that was bearable. The price of the journey wasn't that expensive either. On board was very clean and well maintained. The service was excellent. It was a non-stop journey. The journey time was manageable at just under 2.5 hours.
