The journey from Potsdam to Berlin Central Station was very quick and pleasant. However, the train was very crowded as school had just finished. You can get to Berlin city centre quickly on this train and don't get stuck in traffic jams like you would by car. I can highly recommend travelling into Berlin by train. Exploring Berlin's Historical Landmarks

The Brandenburg Gate, an iconic symbol of Berlin, was constructed in the late 18th century and originally served as a neoclassical triumphal arch. Its significance lies not only in its architectural beauty but also as a historical marker of Germany's tumultuous past, representing both division during the Cold War and unity after the fall of the Berlin Wall. Unique features include its stunning Quadriga statue atop the gate, which depicts a chariot drawn by four horses and has become synonymous with peace.

The Berlin Wall Memorial stands as a poignant reminder of Germany’s divided history from 1961 to 1989 when it separated East and West Berlin. This site is significant for commemorating those who lost their lives attempting to cross into freedom while providing insight into life under oppressive regimes through preserved sections of the wall. Visitors can explore unique elements such as original watchtowers and informative exhibits that tell personal stories behind this monumental divide.

The Reichstag Building serves not only as home to Germany's parliament but also symbolizes democracy following reunification in 1990 after decades marked by conflict. Its historical importance is underscored by events like its burning in 1933, which led to significant political changes within Nazi Germany; today it represents resilience and transparency in governance. A standout feature is its striking glass dome designed by architect Norman Foster, allowing visitors panoramic views over Berlin while embodying openness between government officials and citizens alike.
