I travelled this route on my trip from Hamburg to Karlsruhe. Despite booking at short notice, I still got a cheap saver fare, even though I travelled on a Friday evening. Unfortunately, the track in Hamburg and later the train were very crowded, it was noisy on the train and we left 30 minutes late. At least it was still quite clean on the train.

The journey was quiet and there were enough free seats. The train was air-conditioned and had an on-board bistro. Power sockets and internet (wifi) were available.
The staff were very helpful and friendly. The price was a bit too high, had I booked earlier I would have saved, but overall I was happy with the journey.

There were also plenty of free seats. It is always possible to reserve a seat on the ICE, provided there are free seats. I didn't have to change trains.
