Travelers looking for a faster alternative to the train route between the Portuguese and Spanish capitals can take direct Lisbon to Madrid flights all year round. Several airlines, including a budget option, offer a frequent daily service seven days a week, with a wide choice of take-off times from early morning to late evening. Flight times to Madrid are around an hour and 15 minutes.
Portugal's national carrier TAP Portugal, its regional subsidiary Portugalia Airlines and Spanish national carrier Iberia all offer frequent daily direct flights between Lisbon and Madrid. In addition, budget airline easyJet and Spanish carrier Air Europa provide direct flights to Madrid from the Portuguese capital.
The fastest TAP Portugal direct Lisbon to Madrid flights take an hour and ten minutes to cover the 502 km route east to the Spanish capital from Lisbon. Most other flights on this route take five to ten minutes longer to reach Madrid Barajas.
Sunday to Friday schedules feature 17 daily direct Lisbon to Madrid flights, with slightly fewer on Saturdays. There are two easyJet budget departures daily from Sunday to Thursday with three on Fridays and one service on Saturdays. Lisbon departures are roughly every hour from early morning through to late evening.
Departure airport: Lisbon Portela Airport is about 7 km north of the city center, with transport links provided by frequent Metro underground trains and Aerobus shuttles, which take around 25 minutes to reach the terminal from the city.
