What's the best way to get to Stuttgart Airport from Stuttgart City Center?

The best way to reach the airport is from Stuttgart Central Station, known locally as Hauptbahnhof (hbf). The central station is either a beautiful 15 minute walk through the Oberer Schlossgarten state park, or a four to five minute ride on the U-Bahn from Charlottenplatz in central Stuttgart. From there, passengers can take the S2 or S3 S-Bahn trains for 11 stops. The train arrives at the airport's underground train station, known locally as Flughafen/ Messe. Cars and taxis are also options for those who prefer or have to drive, and these journeys take 15 to 25 minutes on average. This route is mostly highways, and without traffic, provides a fast alternative to the train.

How far is it from Stuttgart city center to Stuttgart Airport?

The journey from Stuttgart city center to its Airport is just over eight miles (12.8 kilometers), and involves traveling south toward the airport. Passengers traveling first from the city center to Stuttgart's central train station will take a tram or walk for three quarters of a mile northward. This takes five or 15 minutes respectively, and from there, the S-Bahn train to the airport takes 25 to 35 minutes.
