The most effective way for travelers in Italy to make the journey from Siena to Florence is by train or ride share. Given that the distance between the two cities is only around 75 kilometers makes taking a plane neither time nor cost-effective. Both traveling by train and ride share take around the same amount of time to arrive in Florence.
Return trips from Florence to Siena are also available.
Regional trains from Siena to Florence offered by Trenitalia take approximately 1.5 hours. There are two direct departures an hour from around 5:45 a.m. until just before 9:30 p.m. There are also additional trains each hour which connect at Empoli and take slightly longer. Siena's train station is on Piazza del Sale a short bus ride from the city center. Florence' Santa Maria Novella Station is in the Old Town and linked to ATAF local buses and the city's one tram line. Taxis are available at both stations.
