My journey from Hanover to Dortmund was on ICE 542 in second class. The journey took just under 1.5 hours. It was a very well-maintained and tidy train. The toilets were clean. The service was also good, there was an on-board bistro selling delicious snacks and coffee. Unfortunately, the wifi was not accessible that day.

I was able to travel from Hanover to Dortmund without changing trains. The train was full, but it was a pleasant volume on the train. The seats were comfortable and the power sockets worked. However, there was no internet connection on the train. I brought this to the attention of the staff and they said that they were currently working on the problem. However, the condition did not improve over the course of the journey. The train was clean and the toilets were hygienic. The on-board bistro was open and the train had not been delayed at all on the journey. Absolutely recommended!

We travelled from Hanover to Dortmund by ICE. There were no delays, as far as I remember. I particularly liked the service on board, as coffee and chocolate were brought to the seats. The train itself was not too old, but the seats were a bit worn and should be renewed if possible.

The journey from Hanover to Dortmund was on ICE 542, in second class. We did not reserve any seats, which was not necessary. The journey took only 1.5 hours, which I would describe as short. The train left Hanover on time and arrived in Dortmund on time. The train itself was not completely clean, there was paper on the floor and the windows were dirty. The service was good and the staff were friendly. There was free wifi and power sockets.

I travelled from Hanover to Dortmund with ICE 542. Unfortunately, the train was 15 minutes late. The train was clean, as were the toilets. The staff were very friendly. I was also lucky with wifi, it was available throughout. There were three of us travelling and we had seats available.

I travelled with ICE 542 from Hanover to Dortmund. We were travelling second class and did not make a reservation. Nevertheless, we all got a seat. The train was very clean and well maintained. The journey was very pleasant. Unfortunately, there was no wifi socket, which I found a pity. The seats were very comfortable and clean. There was a snack machine nearby so you could get something to eat and drink. The hygiene of the WCS was okay, it could be a bit clean. I didn't have to change trains as this was a direct connection. The price-performance ratio was okay, but it could be a tad cheaper. As I was travelling from Hanover to Essen, I can also rate this route as I was travelling along it.

Disadvantages
IconInternet not always reliable
I can only recommend travelling from Hanover to Dortmund on the ICE. There are only three stops (Bielefeld, Hamm, Dortmund) and so you reach your destination very quickly. The trains are clean, the staff are friendly plus there are drinks and food available in the on-board restaurant if necessary. The internet is unfortunately not always reliable, but mostly usable. Laptops and mobile phones can be conveniently charged via the power socket.

My nephew travels by train to the vocational school in Gelsenkirchen several times a year. Depending on the connection, he sometimes has to change trains. Like here in Dortmund to Hanover. We booked the ticket online for 2nd class without any problems. The seats are reserved and comfortable. There is also free wifi and you can get something to eat in the on-board restaurant. However, the prices here are a bit steep, so he hasn't resorted to this yet.
