Train travel between the Spanish cities of Barcelona and Murcia is provided by Renfe. The state-owned railroad company operates at least six trains every day, starting in the early hours of the morning and ending at around 5:00 p.m. The trip takes an average of seven hours, although some trains take longer as they go to Madrid first, where passengers must alight and switch to another train. The departure station is Barcelona Sants, a large transportation hub located near the city's exhibition centre and approximately two and a half miles from the Rambla and the waterfront. In Murcia, the train station is located a 15-minute walk south of the historic centre.
The train from Barcelona to Murcia departs Barcelona Sants Station, which is located slightly west of the city centre. The station is serviced by coach, metro, regional rail and cab. The amount of time to get to the station varies based on traffic and original departure point. Coach service operates all night whereas the metro operates from 5:00 a.m. to 12:00 a.m. Sunday through Thursday, 5:00 a.m. to 2:00 a.m. Friday and continuously throughout the evening on Saturday.
Located in Southeastern Spain, Murcia's primary attractions include the Cathedral of Murcia and the Estadio Nueva Condomina football stadium. Geographic attractions include Mar Menor, a salty lagoon separated from the Mediterranean only by a small strip of sandbar and the Segura River which flows through the city. The primary train station is Murcia del Carmen railroad Station which is located directly in the city centre. The station is accessible via coach, regional rail and cab. Given the small size of Murcia, the station can be accessed in approximately 20 minutes from anywhere in the city. Coach service is available from 7:15 a.m. until 8:15 p.m.
