London Stansted Airport (STN) is located about 38 miles (61 km) north of Central London. It takes about 47min to get to STN using the Stansted Express train from London Liverpool Street. You can also take the #A9 National Express bus (1h 23min) or the #A21 Airport Express bus (1h 20min) from Liverpool Street to Stansted. Once at the airport, you’ll find free Wi-Fi, an information desk, water bottle filling stations, prayer rooms, currency exchange, ATMs, shopping and dining, and quiet seating areas.
Arrival airport: All of the flights from London to Barcelona arrive at El Prat Airport (BCN), which is located about 7.8 miles (12.5 km) southeast of Barcelona’s city center. The easiest way to get to the city center from the airport with the Aerobus, which takes about 22min to travel to the Place d’Espanya stop downtown. The A1 Aerobus departs from Terminal 1, and the A2 bus departs from Terminal 2. You can also ride the R2 line of the Cercanias (Renfe’s commuter rail), which takes about 29min to travel from Terminal 2 to the Barcelona-Sants station.
There is no Renfe train station at Terminal 1, but there is a free airport shuttle that connects the terminals. You can also take the L9 Sud (Orange Line) of the Metro; it is about a 22min trip, and the Metro stops at both Terminals 1 and 2. At BCN, you’ll find free Wi-Fi, ATMs and currency exchange services, shops and restaurants, car rental counters, pharmacies, airport information desks, and tourist information.

Several airlines travel from London to Barcelona, including British Airways, Vueling, and RyanAir. British Airways provides most of the direct flights out of Heathrow Airport (LHR), while Vueling is the primary operator of most of the direct flights out of Gatwick Airport (LGW). If you’re taking a direct flight out of Stansted Airport (STN), your airline will most likely be Ryanair or Vueling.
British Airways, the UK’s flag-carrier airline, has its main hub at Heathrow Airport, and almost all of the direct flights from Heathrow to Barcelona out of Heathrow Airport are operated by this airline. Most of these flights last about 2h 05min, but a few can be as quick as 1h 55min or as long as 2h 15min. These flights depart Heathrow regularly throughout the day, from the early morning through the early evening hours. British Airways also operates a few daily direct flights out of Gatwick Airport.
Vueling is a low-cost Spanish airline. Most of the London to Barcelona flights on Vueling’s schedule are direct flights that depart from Gatwick Airport, but Vueling does operate a limited number of daily direct flights out of Stansted Airport. Vueling’s direct flights generally make the trip in about 2h 05min, and they depart Gatwick every few hours through the day.
London Stansted Airport is one of the main hubs of Ryaniar, a low-cost Irish airline. Ryanair operates a majority of the direct London to Barcelona flights out of Stansted. These flights generally last about 2h 05min or 2h 10min.

British Airways offers two fare levels: Light (passengers may bring one personal item, such as a small backpack, purse, or laptop bag) and Standard (passengers may bring one personal item plus one checked luggage item). Vueling also offers two fare levels, which are Light (one personal item plus checked bag) and Standard (one personal item, one carry-on bag, and one checked bag). On all flights, bikes and other oversized items must be packed in a protective box or sturdy bag and will be considered checked baggage. Vueling passengers bringing a bike with them must fold the bikes, remove the pedals, and deflate the wheels. All of these airlines allow passengers to bring a guide dog and other service animal with them on the plane. However, Vueling and Ryanair do not allow pets on the flights from the UK to Spain. British Airways does allow pets to travel in the cargo hold through their partner, PetAir UK. Flights are fully accessible to passengers with disabilities.
