If you want to travel from the north of Germany to the capital of Austria, the best way to do this is by plane. The connection is very popular, so there are countless flights from Hamburg to Vienna every day. The first flights usually start early in the morning and the last leave Hamburg late in the evening. A direct flight between the two cities will take about 1 hour 20 minutes, a flight with a change of destination will take 3 hours 20 minutes or more.
The Hamburg - Vienna flights are mainly operated by Eurowings, Austrian Airlines and Lufthansa. All these airlines offer several flights on the route every day. Depending on the date of travel, other airlines also fly from Hamburg to Vienna, such as KLM, Swiss, brussels airlines or openskies.
A direct flight lasts about 1 hour 20 minutes, while flights with a stopover usually take about 4 hours or longer. Lufthansa as well as Eurowings and Austrian Airlines offer several direct flights every day. Other flights from Hamburg to Vienna vary depending on the date of travel. Openskies regularly offers direct flights, while Brussels Airlines usually flies via Brussels (flight duration 5 hours 20 minutes). With KLM it's mostly via amsterdam, with a journey time of at least 3 hours 24 minutes. If you like flying with Swiss, you will have to accept a stopover in Zurich and a journey time of at least 4 hours.
For the connection Hamburg - Vienna there are at least 30-40 flights every day. Eurowings, Austrian Airlines and Lufthansa alone offer around 10 flights a day on the route. The first flights start between 6 and 7 am and after that there are several flights every hour. The last flight is usually between 21 and 22.
Departure airport. Hamburg International Airport (Ham) is the oldest airport in Germany and a true institution. Nevertheless, the airport has been renovated several times and offers free Wi-Fi, electricity, shopping and restaurants. The airport is located about 8 kilometers north of Hamburg and can be reached by S-Bahn line S1. The journey from the main station takes about 25 minutes, just as long as a trip by car or cab.
Arrival airport. Vienna International Airport (VIE) is located about 16 kilometers southeast of the city center. The City Airport Train (CAT) takes 16 minutes to the main station. By cab or car it takes about 20 minutes. Vienna Airport also has free Wi-Fi and power sockets, and of course many restaurants and shops.
