Travel from Vilnius city center to Vilnius International Airport

What's the best way to get to the airport from the city center?

There are several means of transit from the city center to the airport. There is a direct train from the central station in the city center to the Vilnius Airport railway station known as Oro Uostas. This is the fastest way to reach the airport from the city center. Tickets can be bought at the railway station, online or on the train and costs 0.70 euros. In addition to rail transit, buses offer transit services from the city center to the airport. The journey takes about 15 to 20 minutes, and costs about 12 euros. Toks Company is the leading bus company offering transit services  using minibuses. The journey takes about 20 minutes. Taxis are also readily available 24/7 outside arrivals. The 15-minute journey usually costs about 10 euros.

​​Vilnius International Airport is located approximately 3.6 miles (5.9 kilometers) south of the city. Lithuania Airport, the biggest of the four commercial airports in Lithuania, serves about 4.9 million passengers annually. Occupying nearly 36 hectares, the airport hosts several airlines such as AirBaltic, Estonian Air, Small Planet and Wizz air. Other airlines operating at the airport include Czech Airlines Aer Lingus, Norwegian Air Shuttle, Austrian Airlines, and Scandinavian Airlines. 

What facilities are there at the airport?

There are several facilities available at the airport terminal. There is a currency exchange bureau at the arrival and departure halls with ATMs available throughout the airport. There is also a selection of fast food outlets, cafes, bars, and restaurants. Luggage recovery facilities are available at the main departure hall together with a luggage wrapping services. The airport also has duty free shops that provide items such as perfumes, books, electronics, souvenirs, and more. Some of the communication facilities available at Vilnius international airport include free WiFi, public telephones, and a post office. Travelers can also access conference and meeting rooms at the airport complex. Other facilities at the airport include a pharmacy, cinema, and baby care rooms.

How accessible is the route for those with limited mobility?

Transportation to and from the airport includes infrastructure adapted for travelers with mobility issues. For example, travelers with limited mobility can be escorted from the arrival sections all the way to their in-flight seats. More so, these passengers are given priority and are not required to wait in line at flight registration, passport control procedures, and security. Getting to Vilnius Airport is relatively easy, thanks to the various transit options available. Travelers who do not have a lot of luggage can take a train. At .70 euros, this is the cheapest option for the 10 minutes journey. Buses also offer affordable options to get to the airport with the tickets costing 1 euro, which can be purchased from the driver. The trip takes about 20 minutes. Though a bit expensive, travelers with a lot of luggage can consider taking a taxi. Taxis are readily available and cost about 15 to 17 euros. Walking is the primary transit mode in the town and will ensure that you won't miss anything. When hungry or tired, travelers can grab a snack, meal, or coffee from plenty of restaurants and fast food cafes available in the airport and the city center. ​
