I travelled from Berlin to Gdańsk by train because I wanted to explore the northern seaside city of Poland. It was a small weekend trip, ideal for a quick exploration of Gdansk, packed with history and beautiful Baltic Sea views. From start to finish, traveling by train was very comfortable and easy. The train was direct, and without the stress of airports and border checks, plus it was a great bargain too.

The Berlin to Gdansk train route is approximately 600 kilometers. The journey takes between 5 and 6 hours, depending on the connection and transfer time. You can find a direct train once or twice a day. However, most routes include a connection in Poznan. In my opinion, it is one of the most comfortable ways to travel between Germany and Poland, by train. The route passes through lakes, forests, and small regional cities.
I booked my trip via Omio, which helped me find the best direct train for the day. I compared prices and transfers, and eventually, I chose the direct train option, which was a great decision. Reaching the decision was fairly easy. Since I could compare multiple train options, the direct option was as much of a bargain as those with transfers, making it a no-brainer.
Berlin Hauptbahnhof is a very unique train station, it looks more like a shopping mall with multiple food, cafe, and shop options. I recommend buying some German bezels and bread before departure for a trip. Despite its size, it’s a well-organized and easy-to-navigate station. I arrived 15 min before, which gave me enough time to find my platform stress-free. My train arrived and departed on time, and I was ready for my journey.
Gdansk Glowny is a beautiful historical station, located pretty close to the city center. The Old Town is only around 15 min walk or a short ride. The station itself has multiple cafes and shops. The station feels welcoming and manageable for the first time visitors.
Trains from Berlin to Gdansk run several times per day, every 2-3 hours during the daytime. Journey takes 5-6 hours, depending on connections. Most routes include one change in Poznan, but you can find the direct train once a day. I chose the afternoon train, a direct one, which was great for late check-in and dinner in Gdansk. Having multiple train options a day, it is easy to plan around your schedule.
The train is clean with spacious cabins for 6 people. I booked my seats, so we were in the cabin with the other 4 people. During the trip, we were using train WI-FI and chargers. The best experience on the train is the restaurant. You can order their local Polish food. I really enjoyed my pierogi with potatoes in the old-fashioned restaurant wagon. Overall, the experience was relaxed and tasty!
Traveling from Berlin to Gdansk by train removes the stress of flying and turns the journey into a relaxed one with comfortable cabin seats and delicious food in the restaurant wagon. With the direct train option or a good connection, the route is stress-free and relaxing. In case you plan the same trip, book it with Omio, as the process is very simple.
