As part of a short trip to Andalusia, we opted for the express train and didn't regret it. It was definitely quicker than hiring a car and certainly cheaper if you factor in the parking fees in the city centres. Booking directly via the English-language website was very easy. The four of us paid 151 euros for the approximately two-hour train journey. We travelled at lunchtime, it would have been even cheaper early in the morning or in the evening. WiFi on the train worked well. We did not use the restaurant. We can definitely recommend the connection.

I travelled from Seville to Granada and was generally satisfied with the connection. I particularly liked the fact that I got to my destination without changing trains. The view during the journey was really nice, especially through the Andalusian countryside. Comfort was okay, but the seat could have been a bit softer. Wifi was available, but only worked partially. The volume in the compartment was pleasant. The staff were also very friendly to me. The price-performance ratio was right for me, so I would take this route again.

I travelled from Seville to Granada on Renfe train 08475 and was absolutely delighted! The journey was absolutely on time, boarding went smoothly and the train staff were friendly and helpful. The seats were very comfortable with plenty of legroom, so I was able to relax and enjoy the three-hour journey. I particularly liked the modern and clean ambience of the train and the reliable wifi, which allowed me to work and listen to music during the journey. The air conditioning also worked perfectly, which was really pleasant given the temperatures in Andalusia. I can recommend this connection to anyone who wants to travel comfortably and stress-free - for me it was the best way to get from Granada to Seville!

Advantages

Disadvantages
Iconthe train was late
Overall, my train journey was fine. One advantage was that the train was clean. The seats were in perfect condition and the floor was clean. Another advantage was the low price. I was able to save money as the ticket was cheap. One disadvantage was that the train stopped frequently and was late. This meant that I arrived later than originally planned. It was occasionally noisy as many people were on the phone. Nevertheless, the journey was pleasant and I would travel by train again.
Advantages
IconCleanliness
Disadvantages
IconUnpunctual
To be fair, I have to mention that my train wasn't quite on time. It arrived 15 minutes late. But it was very clean and the wifi was good. I even had a seat to myself. In addition, the staff were always open to questions. I changed trains once on the journey and my train number was 02072. The journey took about 3 hours. I would highly recommend it.

It was a shame that the staff were relatively dismissive and unhelpful towards me. On the other hand, my train was on time, there was good wifi and I was able to work effectively and with concentration for 2 hours. My bench was free of dirt and I found the backrest very comfortable. There was even a small table to fold out. The train number was 08275 and it was necessary to change trains once. It took 3 hours.

Disadvantages

The train journey was absolutely fantastic, especially compared to my experiences with trains in Germany. The train was on time to the minute, nothing like the frequent delays I'm used to. The facilities were first class, comfortable seats with plenty of legroom, reliable wifi and working sockets at every seat, which unfortunately is often missing or not working properly in Germany. The cleanliness was also impeccable, both in the compartment and in the toilets, and the staff were friendlier and more helpful than average. Overall, a much more pleasant experience that shows how train journeys should be, as I didn't have to change trains either.
Advantages
IconPunctual
Disadvantages
IconHygiene
All in all, the train service with train number 7191 was satisfactory. The train arrived on time and the journey took about 2.5 hours. The seats were comfortable and there was enough space for everyone. I'm sorry, but the train was not completely clean, which reduced the comfort a bit. Some minor delays occurred during the journey but did not have a significant impact on the journey. All in all, pleasant nonetheless. I was able to charge my mobile phone and get some work done.
Advantages
Iconclean
Disadvantages
IconPunctuality
The train journey was fine overall, but punctuality was a big problem. The train was already late on departure and there were further delays en route, which disrupted the journey plan. On the plus side, the seats were clean and comfortable and there were modern facilities with power sockets and wifi. The staff were friendly, but could do little about the delays. There was a toilet on board, which was also clean. I didn't have to change trains. The train number was 00438. Overall an acceptable journey, but the unreliability of the timetable was disappointing.
Advantages
Iconclean
Disadvantages
Iconfull
The 3-hour train journey with train number 7194 went well overall. The train arrived on time and there were no changes, which made the journey more pleasant. The seats were comfortable and the train was well equipped. However, it was quite crowded, which made the journey a little less comfortable. The sanitary facilities were tidy and worked well. Overall, it was a pleasant journey, but I wish the train was less crowded. The network was very fast.
Advantages
Iconcomfortable
Disadvantages
Iconnothing
The journey was very pleasant. The staff were very friendly and I had enough legroom. It was also very clean and the sanitary facilities were very hygienic. The staff were friendly and I felt comfortable. My train number was 1402 and the wifi was stable. The journey took 2.5 hours. There was no need to change trains. I was able to buy something to eat at the station. Recommendation.
Advantages
IconPersonnel
Disadvantages
IconDelay
The train was unfortunately late, which spoilt the overall impression. The cleanliness and comfort were okay, but nothing special. The wifi worked relatively well, but the announcements were not easy to understand. I didn't have to change trains, which made it much less stressful. Fortunately, there were also power sockets where I could charge my mobile phone. The journey was okay overall, unfortunately there was the rather annoying delay. Apart from that, the journey was pretty good.

Taking the Train from Seville to Granada: My Personal Journey Through Southern Spain

Introduction

I’ve always had a soft spot for train travel, especially in Spain, where the landscapes seem to shift every few kilometers. When I was planning my journey through Andalusia, taking the train from Seville to Granada felt like the most relaxed and scenic way to travel. In this guide, I’ll walk you through what it’s really like—from booking the ticket to the views out the window—and offer my best tips if you’re planning to do the same.

Route Overview

The train from Seville to Granada connects two iconic Andalusian cities in about 2.5 to 3.5 hours, depending on the service you book. Operated by Renfe, Spain’s national rail provider, this route is a great way to travel from Seville to Granada if you’re looking for a scenic and stress-free experience.

Trains run several times daily, and while there are also bus options between these cities, the train wins for comfort and speed. If you're curious, you can compare Seville to Granada buses on Omio, but I’ll always vouch for the train.

Transportation Experience

I booked my Renfe Seville to Granada train directly through Omio, which made the process incredibly simple. The mobile ticket arrived straight to my inbox (and was able to be accessed via app), and I was able to pay securely with my card and track departure times in-app.

I considered taking a bus for budget reasons, but for me, train travel feels more peaceful—and in summer, avoiding traffic and motion sickness is priceless. The journey itself was part of the adventure, and that’s what sealed the deal.

Route Details

Departure & Arrival Stations

I boarded at Seville Santa Justa, the city’s main train station. It's a quick 10-minute taxi ride from the center, or you can walk if you’re staying nearby. The station has everything you need: cafés, restrooms, and a few shops in case you forget snacks or want to pick up a book for the ride.

The train arrives at Granada Railway Station, just a 15–20 minute walk from the historic Albaicín district and the main city center. It’s not a massive station, so navigating it was easy.

Schedule & Frequency

Trains from Seville to Granada depart 4–5 times per day, with more frequency during peak travel months. I traveled midweek in June and chose a late morning train, which gave me time for breakfast and a relaxed check-out. My Seville to Granada train time was just under three hours, with a few short stops along the way, including Córdoba.

Onboard Experience and Services

I booked a Standard (Second Class) seat, and it was genuinely comfortable. Plenty of legroom, clean cabins, and working A/C—crucial during Andalusian summers. There were power outlets at the seats and free Wi-Fi, though it cut in and out, especially through the countryside (which I expected).

Renfe also offers Comfort (First Class) and Premium options on some routes, which include wider seats, extra legroom, and sometimes complimentary snacks or quieter coaches. I considered upgrading, but for a journey under three hours, Standard Class felt like the best value. Unless you're traveling during peak hours or want a more spacious, quiet experience, Standard Class is more than enough for a comfortable ride.

There’s a cafeteria car onboard where you can grab coffee, sandwiches, or small snacks, but I personally brought my own picnic from a café near the station. The views on this ride were beautiful—rolling olive groves, sunbaked hills, and whitewashed villages in the distance.

Ticketing Advice & Budget Breakdown

I booked my ticket about two weeks in advance for €27, which is fairly standard if you plan ahead. Prices can rise closer to the travel date, especially in the high season, so I recommend booking early. Omio also gives the option to compare seat classes and times, which helped me choose the best value option.

If you’re traveling in a group or multiple cities in Spain, consider checking Renfe’s discount passes or Spain’s rail passes. Here’s a rough breakdown of my expenses for this trip:

Item Cost (EUR)
Train ticket (Standard Class, booked early) €27
Taxi to Seville Santa Justa €8
Coffee and snack at the station €5
Light lunch from cafeteria car €6
Walk to the hotel in Granada €0
Total €46

Top Tips & Personal Recommendations

  • Arrive 30–45 minutes early at Seville Santa Justa to get oriented, especially if it's your first time navigating Spanish train stations.

  • Sit on the right side of the train for better views of the countryside.

  • Bring your own food—station cafés in Seville have better options than the train cafeteria.

  • If you’re visiting in summer, the air-conditioned train ride is a welcome break from the heat.

  • Traveling with luggage? There’s ample space near the entrance of each car, as well as overhead racks for small bags.

Conclusion

The iconic Alhambra palace complex in Granada

If you’re exploring Andalusia, taking the train from Seville to Granada is one of the easiest and most enjoyable ways to travel. The ride is scenic, stress-free, and efficient—and booking with Omio made it all the smoother. Whether you're chasing Moorish architecture or just want to soak in Spain's countryside, this route is worth every minute.
