I thought I paid too much for this ferry. The price-performance ratio was not good. I left relatively early and it was also relatively long for such a short route. What I found very good was the food and the hygiene in the toilets. Booking online was very easy via the online portal. That's why I give it four out of five stars.

What do you need to know before traveling by ferry from Stockholm to Helsinki?

Departure port:Ferries from Stockholm to Helsinki depart from Stadsgårdskajen port, which is east of the hip Södermalm neighborhood. Slussen is the nearest subway station and is a 10-minute walk away from the port. Subways from central Stockholm to Slussen depart regularly throughout the day. The walk is in a straight line for 0.4 miles down Katarinavägen, and the port is signposted. However, passengers with large luggage may prefer to take a bus from the Slussen subway.

Passengers who would prefer not to navigate the subway system with luggage should board the number 53 public bus from Stockholm Central Station. If you depart at the Londonviadukten stop, you are only a 2 minutes' walk away from the port.

The Flygbussarna inter-city bus service to Stadsgårdskajen port is direct and provides a more comfortable service, with dedicated luggage storage. However, it is more expensive than other public transport options.

The port itself is heated, with a café and a dedicated duty-free area for you to enjoy before boarding.

Port of arrival:Ferries from Stockholm to Helsinki arrive at Skatudden terminal. Skatudden is in only 1.7 miles (2.7 km) from Helsinki city center and it is easy to walk from the port to central Helsinki in around 20 minutes. However, travelers with luggage may prefer not to walk across cobbled streets with their bags, and so they'd be advised to take tram 4 or tram 5 to central Helsinki. Both trams take approximately 10 minutes to reach the city center from the port.

The port at Skatudden mostly serves industrial ferries and so is not the most comfortable port for passengers. However, there is a small duty-free area where passengers can buy produce unique to Finland and authentic Finnish crafts. However, those who wish to dine are advised to do so in Helsinki city center, instead of in proximity of the port.
