Being born in Sorrento, I have taken the ferry from Sorrento to Capri many times, but for my pre-honeymoon trip we left from Naples (closer to where we live now) to arrive directly in Capri. Taking the ferry from Naples to Capri is one of those journeys that feels like part of the destination itself: scenic, refreshing, and a perfect introduction to the island. Returning to Capri is always a great emotion for me and this crossing was part of it!

This pic is unfiltered: the blue sea of Capri.
The ferry from Naples to Capri takes between 50 minutes and 1 hour 30 minutes, depending on the type of ferry and sea conditions. The route covers about 30 kilometers (19 miles) across the Bay of Naples, departing from Napoli Beverello (the port we chose) or Calata Porta di Massa.
I booked my ticket online a few days in advance, especially because ferries can fill up quickly in high season and I was already sure of the travel date and times (we went in June). Boarding was smooth and well organized and honestly the thing I remember best is the desire to arrive on this incredible island.
For sure Naples Beverello port can feel a bit chaotic, but once you find your ferry company, everything becomes straightforward. We arrived early to avoid stress and carry our luggage calmly.
Arriving in Capri is unforgettable, one of my favorite views ever. The marina is lively and colorful, with boats, shops and views that instantly set the mood. Also worth mentioning is the scent of the sea which is even more intense on sunny days!
Ferries run frequently throughout the day, roughly every 1-2 hours, with more options in summer. This time of year can be very busy so again my advice is to book with Omio as early as possible to secure a spot.
We chose a fast ferry, which was comfortable and efficient. Sitting outside for part of the journey made it even more special, with incredible sea views and an incredibly pleasant summer breeze.
We paid around €25 each for our tickets but I’d like to point out that prices may vary in a range between €20 and €40, depending on the ferry type and especially if it is high season.
