Transcontinental

About
Transcontinental Bus System was a significant intercity bus company that played a key role in the development of nationwide bus travel in the United States. Formed in 1948, it resulted from the merger of several companies, including Continental Bus System, Santa Fe Trailways, and Dixie Sunshine Trailways. This expansion allowed "Continental" branded services to stretch from Los Angeles to Chicago, and from Salt Lake City to Corpus Christi, Texas. Transcontinental Bus System was later acquired by Holiday Inn in 1968 and then sold in 1979. In 1987, Continental Trailways, which had been the largest company within the broader Trailways system, was acquired by Greyhound, further consolidating national bus services.
