Flying from/to Menorca Airport

When arriving to Menorca Airport, it can be unclear how to reach your final destination, or more generally, to the city centre. We, at Omio, have mapped out good things to know, facilities available when flying to Menorca Airport and what to do when you get to the city.

Travel from Menorca city center to Menorca Airport

Menorca is one of Spain's smallest Balearic Islands, situated off the country's eastern coast. Despite its small size, Menorca is a popular island for tourists due to its wildlife, particularly flora and birdlife, and its Mediterranean beaches. In fact, the island is designated by UNESCO as a Biosphere reserve due to its unique environmental features. Menorca Airport is known locally as Mahon Airport, and sits three and a half miles (5.6 kilometers) southwest of the island's capital city, Mahon. Although the island itself has almost no public transportation infrastructure, there is an airport bus that travels from Mahon to the airport, which is bus route 10. The main way to get around the island is by car, taxi or rental bikes.

What's the best way to get to Menorca Airport from Menorca city center?

The best way to get to Menorca Airport from Menorca city center is the bus route 10 that transports passengers from Mahon Bus Station in the island's capital to the airport. The journey takes 15 minutes, and buses depart the bus station every 30 minutes. Given that Menorca is a popular tourism destination, there are two bus schedules, one for the peak season of June to September, and one for the off-peak season of October to May. Those traveling should be aware that there are no buses past 7.45 p.m. during off-peak season, whereas the last bus departs after midnight in peak season. Driving, taking a taxi or riding a rental bike are the main ways to get around the city, and the only ways for those traveling to the airport from the island's historic city of Ciutadella de Menorca.

How far is it from Menorca city center to Menorca Airport?

Menorca Airport is three and a half miles (5.6 kilometers) southwest of Menorca's city center, Mahon. It is recommended travelers leave between 30 and 60 minutes to travel to the island's small airport. The airport is 29 miles (46 kilometers) southeast of the historic city center of Ciutadella de Menorca, and travelers staying near the old city must take a car or taxi across the island to reach the airport.

What facilities are there at Menorca Airport?

Menorca Airport is small, with one terminal and three levels operating flights mainly to Spain and other European countries. There are short and long stay parking packages available at the airport's parking lot, and because driving is the easiest way for locals coming from small towns outside of the city center, these have great, competitive prices. There is free WiFi access throughout the airport, as well as a children's playroom, tourist information and financial services such as currency exchange. As for shopping and food, passengers can enjoy a handful of retail and dining outlets in the airport before their flight.

How accessible is the route for those with limited mobility?

It is recommended that passengers with limited mobility take a taxi or car to the airport, as the accessibility of the airport bus cannot be guaranteed. As a European Union airport, Menorca Airport has services for those with limited mobility. Airport staff will assist such passengers to the best of their ability with any requirements, but it is best that this assistance is requested at least 48 hours before the flight, and preferably when booking. Assistance can involve help with checking in, moving about the airport, and boarding the flight.

Local tips: how to travel to Menorca Airport like a local

Locals coming from the city center take advantage of the airport bus and take public transportation to their flight. Otherwise, it is common for locals to drive or take taxis to the airport, as the public transit infrastructure is limited. Locals arrive early to the airport, and enjoy a drink with their travel companions in one the airport's bars and cafes. Locals are never bored waiting for the airport bus, as the Mahon Bus Station is right beside the Port of Mahon and the city's bustling coastline. Why not grab a meal before heading to the airport at one of Mahon's seaside restaurants, and delight in the stunning sea views.
