If you want to travel from Zurich to Basel, flying is out of the question. These two Swiss cities are a short distance apart, and there are no scheduled flights. Instead, you can take an express train straight to the heart of Basel or take an affordable bus via Basel EuroAirport. Either way, you will be at your destination in less than 2 hours, making Basel a great day trip destination if you are staying in Zurich.

Travelers cannot catch a bus straight from Zurich to Basel's city center. However, it's still easy to reach Basel via bus. Flixbus operates a daily service from Zurich to Basel EuroAirport, which isn't far from the city itself. Four buses leave Zurich every day, with the first bus leaving at 11:00 a.m. and the last service departing at 11:00 p.m. The journey takes 1 hour and 30 minutes. When you get to the airport in Basel, shuttle buses can take you into town and take 20 minutes to reach Basel SBB (the main train station).
Taking the train is the easiest and fastest way to get from Zurich to Basel's city center. SBB runs a direct daily train from Zurich to Basel, with the first train leaving Zurich Hauptbahnhof at 6:00 a.m. After that, there are trains every hour until 11:45 p.m. The journey takes 53 minutes, and no changes are required at any stage. All trains get into Basel SBB, which is right at the heart of the city, a few minutes' walk from Basel Zoo and hotels in the Altstadt district.
