Barcelona and Girona are only around 100 kilometers apart, so flying isn't really an option for anyone traveling in Spain. Instead, travelers can catch local buses or take a Renfe train service between the two Spanish cities. Catching the train is by far the fastest, most frequent and most convenient way to reach Girona from Barcelona.
Return trips from Girona to Barcelona are also available.
Buses from Barcelona to Girona are operated by Alsa and take 1 hour 30 minutes to make the journey. No changes are required along the way. The only drawback is that there is a single service every day, which departs from Barcelona Nord at 7:40 a.m. and gets into Girona at 9:10 a.m. To get to Nord Bus Station, catch bus number 54 or Metro Line 1 (the red line). If you want to reach Girona Airport, the Barcelona Bus provides a direct connection. Operated by Sagales, these buses depart every 2 hours and take 1 hour 15 minutes - but do not travel into the center of Girona.
Trains from Barcelona to Girona are the most popular, comfortable and rapid way to make the journey. All trains to Girona depart from Barcelona Sants station, which is almost in the center of the city. You can easily reach Sants via the Metro from all corners of the Catalan capital.
