The stunning Italian coastal resort of Sorrento is the perfect place for a sun-drenched escape. The town is conveniently positioned on the west coast, towards the middle of Italy's boot, which means it's easy to reach whether you're traveling from either the north or south. Services from several larger cities, including Milan, arrive at Sorrento's own train station, while trains from Rome arrive at nearby stations with plenty of connections into town.

Which is the main train station in Sorrento?

Sorrento's local station is 'Stazione di Sorrento'. The station can be found in downtown Sorrento, just a 15-minute walk from the seafront. This station is primarily served by local trains connecting Sorrento with surrounding towns and villages. Indirect long-distance services from Milan and Florence, among others, also arrive here. Trains from Rome arrive at nearby stations in Castellammare Di Stabia (7.4 miles outside town) and Roviglianio (8.7 miles outside town). Both these train stations are connected to Sorrento by bus. Travelers may also choose to take a train to Naples Central and then catch a local bus to Sorrento.

Which train companies offer trains to Sorrento?

Many trains to Sorrento are provided by Italo, an Italian high-speed rail provider. Italo offers journeys from Florence, Milan and other Italian cities. The last part of these journeys is usually on an Italo Bus. Another provider of journeys along this route is Trenitalia, the state-owned Italian train network. High-speed Trenitalia trains depart from Rome several times a day, arriving at stations just outside Sorrento itself.

Before you travel to Sorrento by train - good to know!

Travelers to Sorrento might be tempted to spend their entire stay sipping local limoncello on pastel-paved terraces. But it's well worth dragging yourself away from the easy delights of the Old Town for an adventure in an even older town. Catch a local train or bus for a day-trip to Pompeii and get a glimpse into Roman antiquity.
