I’ve done the Milan Centrale to Malpensa Airport route more times than I can count, and every single time I’m glad I chose the train. When you’re dealing with flights, the last thing you want is uncertainty and this route is about as reliable as it gets: no sudden car traffic and the very convenient Malpensa Express always available.

Walking around Milan: the San Babila neighborhood.
The Malpensa Express takes about 50 minutes to connect Milano Centrale Station with Malpensa Airport, covering roughly 50 kilometers (31 miles). In my experience, it’s the easiest and most predictable way to reach the airport from a busy city like Milan.
I usually book my ticket on Omio in advance, especially if I have an early flight: I don't want complications and last-minute twists. The process is quick, and I like having everything sorted before I even get to the station. Compared to taxis or buses, the train feels much more relaxed: no traffic, no stress.
Milano Centrale can surely feel overwhelming at first, but once you know where you’re going, it’s very efficient. I always arrive a bit early (at least 25-30 minutes), grab a coffee, and head to the platform with plenty of time.
What I love about Malpensa Airport station is how straightforward it is. You step off the train and you’re basically already inside the T1 terminal area, it makes the whole airport experience feel smoother.
Trains for this route run every 20-30 minutes, which gives you a lot of flexibility. I’ve taken both early morning and late evening trains, and they’ve always been reliable and safe.
The Malpensa Express is designed for travelers, so luggage space isn’t an issue. That’s always nice to know in advance! I usually find a seat, plug in my phone, and just relax (daydreaming of my flight and new adventures). It’s a short ride, but a comfortable one.
I usually pay around €15 for a one-way ticket. Booking online saves time, especially when you’re in a rush, and you can do it from wherever you like.
