I could not recommend the journey from Mannheim main station to Cologne. Firstly, the train was late and I missed my connection. The train was completely overcrowded due to the delay and therefore it was also very noisy in the train. Again, I paid a lot for this train and could not show good value for money. The positives could not outweigh the negatives on this journey. Nevertheless, I like to travel by train because I can make good use of the time there.
