The Hamburg ZOB bus terminal is located in the St Georg district of the Old Town. Nearby is Hamburg Central Railway Station where passengers will find excellent transport links to other urban districts. Also available are excursions to places like Alster Lake and other attractions in the nearby Lower Saxony countryside. Flixbus runs buses to Hamburg ZOB from Amsterdam, Malmo and other European cities. The same company links Hamburg with major German cities, such as Bonn and Bremerhaven. Postbus also runs services within Germany, while the Berlin Linien Bus provides bus services between Hamburg and Berlin.

Arriving in Hamburg

The city of Hamburg developed over centuries around a network of canals that were built to facilitate its membership of international trading organisation, the Hanseatic League. Today it is a powerhouse of commerce and industry, with this marriage of old wealth and new prosperity giving rise to an eclectic mix of architecture. When ships sailed down the River Elbe towards the town, the copper-covered spire of the Church of St. Michael greeted the sailors. The church has been rebuilt three times; the present building dates from 1786. Its treasures include the bronze statue of St Michael’s Victory over the Devil at the entrance. Visitors can reach other attractions via the transport network and on boat trips on the waterways. The historic Old Botanic Garden adds to Hamburg’s beauty and its many theatres, museums, and music clubs attract thousands of visitors every year.
