Route overview

While flights and buses from New York to Toronto are available, the comfort, onboard food, and scenic views make the train my preferred choice. The Amtrak Maple Leaf travels through Upstate New York and Southern Ontario, offering a relaxing ride through beautiful countryside. You’ll start your journey at New York Penn Station and arrive at Toronto Union Station. The full trip covers 544 miles (875 kilometers) in just over 12 hours, a slow but stunning way to take in the landscape. For those who value the journey as much as the destination, this is hands down the best way to experience this part of North America.

Transportation experience

It’s easy to book this cross-country train trip on Omio, but what really sets the Maple Leaf apart is the journey itself. In New York, train staff help you line up and board in an orderly, stress-free process. As you cross into Canada, train staff will guide you to passport control. I found this to be very smooth, and within minutes, you’ll be back in your seat. With free Wi-Fi and a café car, it’s one of the most comfortable and relaxed international crossings in North America.
