Private buses provide bus services from the Port of Civitavecchia to Rome. Private buses are provided by Smart Cruise Tours. These travel the route between Civitavecchia and the Rome Airport and Rome Termini. This is a good alternative to train transfers and delivers you directly to your destination. The bus does not travel daily and has a limited schedule so check schedules on their website. The bus leaves the port between 9:15 and 9:30 a.m. and reaches the termini in Rome between 11:00 and 11:30 a.m. Additionally, there are free shuttle buses that travel from the airport to Civitavecchia and back.
Trains from Civitavecchia to Rome depart hourly and complete the journey in just under an hour. The journey is provided by Trenitalia. The night train departs from Civitavecchia twice daily and arrives at Roma Ostiense. Ostiense provides an interchange with the Rome Metro. This will transport you direct to the Colosseum or Spanish Steps. The journey takes just under one hour. Night train services are provided by Line Intercity Night and the Trenitalia train services. Other trains take about 70-80 minutes. These will make interim stops along the way. They cost about half the price of the direct trains.
