Fastest and easiest connection between the two cities. Runs once an hour, takes about an hour. Usually quite full GDR train with compartments, high nostalgic flair. A bit difficult to get on because of the steep stairs, therefore not recommended for prams, heavy luggage etc.. Mostly very noisy due to old windows and old train. If you are lucky, you have a compartment to yourself, then it is quite cosy. There are no power sockets, wifi, seat reservations or catering. Always leaves Leipzig on time, but regularly arrives 10-15 minutes late. No alternative, but still recommendable.

There is no need to change trains from Leipzig to Chemnitz. The staff was very dedicated and helped many passengers with problems and always remained friendly. The train had power sockets but no working wifi. The cleanliness on the train was not so good. However, the toilets were very clean and there was plenty of toilet paper. Apart from that, everything else on the journey was fine and definitely recommendable.

The return journey from Leipzig to Chemnitz was a disaster! There were extreme crowds at the main station. When the train arrived with a delay of about a quarter of an hour, I would have wished for staff to stop people from rushing into the train like monkeys regardless of losses. The seats were of course occupied immediately (you can't reserve them), most people (including blind people!) were allowed to sit on the floor in the aisles. Chemnitz has the oldest train of all, so it's incredibly loud and every metre you walk you get the feeling the train is going to fall apart at any moment. The loudness meant that you couldn't even hear the announcements from the loudspeaker. It stopped 3 times for 10 minutes, so the journey was extremely long and I arrived half an hour late. I don't understand why more trains are not used. This was not the first time that the train journey was so disastrous! The price of €17.50 for a single journey on this train is absolutely excessive, considering the crowds and the age of the train. If I had another option, I would certainly never travel on this train again!
Advantages
IconNo changeover necessary
IconToilets on the train
IconFriendly board staff
Disadvantages
IconTrain a bit loud
My journey from Leipzig to Chemnitz went smoothly. Booking the ticket at the ticket machine on the platform was easy and clear. The train compartments were spacious and always had 6 seats. There were a few power sockets on board, which I really liked. Furthermore, the seats were very comfortable and the train was clean, I received a friendly welcome from the train crew and the ticket inspection was also very quick. Another good thing to know is that there are on-board toilets. These were also very clean. Unfortunately, I only have a small negative comment to make about the train itself. It was unfortunately very noisy. The train arrived 11 minutes late. However, this had nothing to do with the train itself, but was due to the weather. I would do the journey again.
Advantages
IconPunctual
Disadvantages
IconPlace
The train was on time, but unfortunately that doesn't make up for everything else. I hadn't reserved a seat, which was my fault, so I had to stand or sit on my luggage the whole time. In addition, the toilet wasn't working, which is really unacceptable. There was wifi, but it didn't work. At least the train ran through and I didn't have to change trains. All in all, a disappointing journey!
Advantages
IconComfortable seats and good equipment
IconCleanliness and hygiene
IconOn time and without having to change trains
IconLow capacity utilisation and pleasant atmosphere
Disadvantages
IconNo staff available
IconThere was no toilet paper in the toilet
The journey from Leipzig to Chemnitz had been very relaxing. The train had hardly been full, so the noise level had been pleasant. The seats had also been very comfortable and had plenty of power sockets and a reasonably stable internet connection. There had also been a snack vending machine. Unfortunately, however, there was no staff, which is why there was no ticket inspection. I thought the cleanliness of the train was okay and the toilets looked hygienic. Unfortunately, there was no toilet paper. Overall, the train was not late and I did not have to change trains.
