Omio strengthens its UK position via partnership with Rail Delivery Group to help drive UK rail recovery

Omio continues its post-pandemic expansion by working with Rail Delivery Group (RDG) to provide domestic and international travellers a better train experience in the UK.

  • Omio and the Rail Delivery Group’s partnership gives Omio a market edge in the UK transportation sector
  • Consumers can now search, compare and book the cheapest train tickets for all train routes in the UK more quickly and easily than via other providers; plus there’s functionality for customers to self-manage refunds
  • This collaboration supports the sustainable travel shift to rail for both national and international travellers

30 November 2021: Omio, the world’s leading multi-modal travel booking platform, is pleased to announce its new direct partnership with the UK’s association of train operating companies, the Rail Delivery Group (RDG). To maximise the benefit of the collaboration, Omio has invested significantly to improve the integration of RDG’s data into the Omio platform to provide a much more user centric experience to consumers looking to travel by rail.

A key differentiator from other providers and comparison sites in the UK is that the Omio platform now offers easier access to find and compare the best fares in terms of travel time and ticket cost. Good user experience is key to us, and therefore another product development as a result of this partnership is that UK customers are able to carry out self-service refunds.

Beyond providing travellers with a platform tailored to their needs, this collaboration with RDG means that, for the first time, Omio has its own direct commercial agreement with the UK Rail industry, and can sell to both British and international travellers. Our aim is to drive incremental sales through international market expansion and modal shift from other less sustainable transport modes.

Omio is excited about the timing of the launch, as it allows us to support the revenue recovery of the UK rail system following the reduction in ridership caused by the pandemic. Further, Omio was invited to give evidence at a recent House of Lords Transport Committee that has since proposed customer centric changes to the UK rail sector. By providing travellers with a range of options for travel, we are able to help them change their travel habits.

Chris Hall, Omio’s Vice President of Commercial, commented on the integration: “We’re thrilled to be pushing for more user-centric rail travel booking services in the UK. This partnership with RDG has helped us further develop our unique technology to ensure consumers travelling in the UK always have access to the best prices. We are confident that this – in turn – can help support rail recovery in the country.”

Paul Bowden, Director of Commercial and Third Party Retailing at the Rail Delivery Group said: “We’re pleased to welcome Omio as a new licenced Third Party Retailer, and hope to see their proposition bringing new customers to rail, from both domestic and international markets. Taking the train is more than a journey, it connects travellers to the people and places they love which supports local businesses and makes our air cleaner.”
