Omio Expands Travel Options with FlixBus and FlixTrain Tickets

BERLIN, June 27, 2024 /PRNewswire/ — Omio has facilitated over 43 million rail, bus, ferry, and air travel bookings worldwide through its global travel platform. Now, Omio is expanding its ticket offerings for travelers. Tickets for FlixBus and FlixTrain from global mobility provider Flix can now be booked via the Omio platform, enhancing its multimodal travel options with Europe’s largest long-distance bus network and an expanding network of train connections.

Alongside trains, coaches are currently the most popular travel option on the Omio platform. Today, 25% of bookings made on Omio worldwide are for coach trips, with this figure at 7% in Germany. The integration of Flix on the Omio platform is expected to further increase this share, as long-distance coach travel continues to grow in popularity both in Germany and worldwide. Last year, 81 million passengers traveled with Flix services globally. Experts anticipate a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 4.4% for the long-distance coach market, projected to reach EUR 6.2 billion by 2027 (Research and Markets). Travelers particularly value long-distance coach travel for its flexibility and exploratory nature. Omio data shows a rise in coach bookings during the summer months, with popular routes including ‘Paris – London’ and ‘Barcelona – Paris’.

“Our mission at Omio is to provide as many people as possible worldwide access to sustainable, affordable, convenient, and multimodal travel experiences. Our partnership with Flix is a significant milestone in achieving this goal. We are partnering with one of the largest travel providers for bus and train travel in Europe. Flix shares our vision for an attractive and innovative travel ecosystem that benefits travelers. Therefore, the cooperation between Omio and Flix exemplifies the advantages of fair competition and open markets while underscoring our commitment to a level playing field in the travel market that prioritizes travelers’ interests and fosters innovation,” said Veronica Diquattro, President Consumer and Supply Business Europe at Omio.

With the integration of Flix tickets, Omio is advancing its growth strategy. This month alone, Omio launched B2B partnerships for the Omio API integration with Iryo (Connecta) and Uber X in Spain and the UK. These partnerships are part of Omio’s ongoing efforts to expand service offerings and provide customers with a broader range of travel options.
