Einleitung
Wenn Sie mit dem Zug von London nach Edinburgh reisen, können Sie aus drei Unternehmen wählen: Avanti, LNER oder Lumo. In diesem Leitfaden vergleiche ich alle drei Anbieter, damit Sie die beste Wahl für Ihre Reise treffen können.
Meine Präferenz ist LNER aufgrund ihrer häufigeren Züge und hervorragenden Bordeinrichtungen. Das heißt jedoch nicht, dass die anderen Optionen schlecht sind.

Routenübersicht
LNER und Lumo fahren beide vom London King’s Cross ab und reisen entlang der East Coast Mainline. Avanti fährt vom London Euston Bahnhof und entlang der West Coast Mainline. Alle kommen am Bahnhof Edinburgh Waverley an.
Lumo hat die schnellsten Reisezeiten von London nach Edinburgh mit 4 Stunden und 17 Minuten, gefolgt von LNER, das 4 Stunden und 20 Minuten benötigt. Ich rate davon ab, einen Flug von London nach Edinburgh zu nehmen. Während der Flug selbst etwa 1 Stunde und 20 Minuten dauert, sind Londons Flughäfen weit vom Stadtzentrum entfernt. Wenn Sie die Reise zum Flughafen, Sicherheitskontrollen und Wartezeiten einrechnen, könnten Sie bereits auf halbem Weg nach Edinburgh sein, während Sie in einem Zug mit 125 mph (200 km/h) fahren, was eine viel entspannendere Option ist!
Transporterlebnis
Die Buchung über Omio war einfach. Ich wählte einfach meine Zeit und Reiseklasse aus, und innerhalb von Minuten nach der Buchung war mein Ticket bereit zur Nutzung!
Obwohl LNER und Lumo ähnliche Züge von Hitachi betreiben, ist das Bord-Erlebnis ganz anders, wie ich unten detailliert beschreibe.
Lumo
Lumo arbeitet nach einem Niedrigpreis-Modell (denken Sie an Ryanair auf Schienen!). Mit nur fünf Verbindungen pro Tag ist die Auswahl begrenzt. Es gibt strenge Gepäckgrenzen (nur ein kleines und ein mittleres Gepäckstück). Keine sperrigen Gegenstände oder Fahrräder sind erlaubt.
Lumo bietet nur Sitzplätze der Standardklasse an, mit 25 Reihen pro Wagen und nur zwei Tischen, sodass der Platz begrenzt ist und die Wagen eng wirken können.
LNER
LNER-Züge von London nach Edinburgh fahren alle 30 Minuten, mit 26 Verbindungen pro Tag.
LNER bietet ein angenehmeres Reiseerlebnis, mit maximal 23 Sitzreihen und acht Tischen pro Wagen. Der staatlich betriebene Anbieter bietet eine großzügigere Gepäckregelung (einschließlich Fahrräder) sowie die Möglichkeit, auf die Erste Klasse aufzuwerten.

Nachdem ich die Abfahrtstafeln für mein Gleis überprüft hatte, ging ich durch die automatischen Ticketbarrieren und bestieg meinen Zug.
Bei Lumo sind alle Tickets mit einer Sitzplatzreservierung verbunden. Die Züge sind immer sehr voll, also stellen Sie sicher, dass Sie in Ihrem zugewiesenen Platz sitzen. Bei LNER sind die Züge außerhalb der Hauptverkehrszeiten weniger voll. Wenn Sie einen zugewiesenen Platz haben, empfehle ich, dort zu sitzen. Andernfalls können Sie sich auf jeden unreservierten Platz setzen (angezeigt durch ein grünes Licht über jedem Platz).

Bordverpflegung & Getränke
Lumo: Bietet einen Wagentrolley-Service, der Sandwiches, Snacks wie Kekse und Chips sowie Getränke wie Kaffee, Tee und Limonade verkauft.
- LNER: Hat einen Bordshop, den Sie nach Belieben besuchen können. Durch Scannen eines QR-Codes können Sie warme Mahlzeiten, Snacks und Getränke wie Kaffee und Wein bestellen und sie an Ihren Platz bringen lassen. Ich habe den Curry Nanster (ein mit Curry gefülltes Naan-Wrap) mit einem Glas Weißwein probiert.
Sowohl Lumo als auch LNER haben WLAN an Bord, obwohl es ziemlich langsam ist und eine unregelmäßige Abdeckung hat. Es ist in Ordnung für allgemeines Surfen und Musikstreaming, aber Sie könnten Schwierigkeiten haben, Videos zu streamen. Ich empfehle, einige Inhalte herunterzuladen, bevor Sie losfahren!
Ticketberatung
Omio hat es super einfach gemacht, meine Zugtickets von London nach Edinburgh zu buchen.
